Going to pick up a new 212 today . Here are my immediate options:
used Avatar 212, ferrite, 4 ohm = $250
new GK 212, neo, 4 ohm = $549
I run a gk1001. Please, just help me compare these two particular cabinets. Thanks in advance |

I used to own an Avatar 212 (8 ohm). Nothing against the Avatar, the sound, for me, coming out of the GK is much better to my ears. YMMV

The Avatar stayed clean throughout the ranges and got louder. The Avatar seemed to have a much better bass response as well. The Avatar 212 with the GK 700 RBII could keep up with a loud drummer, the GK212 could not very well. As far as tone the GK sounded slightly more articulate at lower volumes but lost all of that when cranked to a playable level with a drummer that likes to play loud. The Avatar never skipped a beat. Now since you have the GK 1001 RB II and the cab is the same size, go with the Avatar 410, that's what I upgraded to and my goodness it was perfect. That RB 1001 for either 212 cab COULD cause an issue if you crank it since it is rated at 700 (680) at 4ohm if I am not mistaken.
I would have kept the GK 1001 RB II and Avatar 410 rig but downgraded to a combo for ease of transportation purposes.

Ive also owned Avatar products and they are good speakers for the money. But if i had to chose it would be GK all the way Better tone plus being able to take advantage of the amp's bi-amp feature.

| | | | I am currently running a 700RB-II with a GK 212 Neo and an Avatar 112 (both 8 ohm). So, I'm missing one speaker from the Avatar to make a direct comparison, but both sound very good. I too like the bi-amp feature, although others downplay its utility. I'm surprised that you've found both at 4 ohm.
For the money you'd save, the Avatar is probably going to be fine (some here would say even better). Either way I think you'd be happy; if you really want the bi-amp feature (you'll need the speakon cable that comes with the GK cab), get the GK. |

Thanks for all the input everyone |

| | | | i use a 700RB-II with a 4ohm version of the 212.
I love it, and i get alot of my tone from the biamping.
The control over the horn and tweeter volume individualy as well as a hi-cut switch for each individual one is awesome.
worth it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
