I am currently using a Backline 600 amp with an Avater 1x12 and a Hartke 1x15. The Hartke provides a good low end but not much high end at all. I'm thinking of replacing the Hartke with an Avatar 2x10. I think that might make the whole setup more balanced. But I don't want to give up too much low end. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Thanks. |

My personal opinion is that the 210 doesn't provide enough low end by itself, although that might have something to do with my playing style, which is fairly aggressive with a pick. If I'm in a situation where I'm only using one cab, its the 115. But I've heard good things about the Avatar 112 so I'm not sure if it might be able to handle the low end better than the 210. |

Also, each of those two tens will be doing half the duty of the twelve.
If you like Avatar, and you're looking for more high end, consider dumping both current cabs and bringing in a TB153, which will eat your proposed (1x12)+(2x10) setup's lunch and pop the bag. |

While it's a great sounding rig, there are times I think I'd prefer either two of the 1x12 OR two of the 2x10. It sounds much better to me when I stack them vertically so I have a vertical line of speakers. There's something about the mids of the Avatar SB-112 that I really like, but I like the openness of the 2x10. Note that this is about the specific Avatar cabs, not a blanket description of 10" or 12" speakers.
Since I've seldom played a 15" speaker cabinet I like if I were in your position and looking to get a new speaker cabinet now, I'd either get another SB-112, or the new TB153.
John

However I would want the speakers to get more power. Perhaps you could look at a 2x10 that has a lower wattage handling to make it more even between the two cabs. Hope I'm not giving you wrong information here. Fred |

You are, but we forgive you, Fred, LOL.
If he wants to mix a 1x12 and a 2x10, which I still discourage, then he ought at least to make sure the 2x10 cab is a few dB more efficient than the 1x12, with even that being only a band-aid, except then he's confronted with the Satanic realm of SPECIFICATIONS (and what to believe or not to believe). |

I had quite enough bottom and top end! I got nothing but compliments at every gig! I play a lot of funk, r&b, soul, pop, latin music. Music that requires a good amount of bass in the mix. If you can get the cabs with deltas and kappas, do it. The neos don't do it for me. |
