Avatar B210 or GK Neo 210?

Sign in to disble this ad
I going to be playing in a blues band in smaller rooms. I'm trying to decide between an Avatar B210 or a GK Neo 210 cabinet to go with my Markbass LMIII head. I know the Avatar cabinets are well liked here. How does the GK Neo cabinet compare? I like that the GK Neo cabinet can tilt back without a stand and it's on sale right now, so it's only about $20 more than the Avatar V210. Thanks for your opinions.

I use the Neo 210, and in my opinion, the kickback feature makes a huge difference. I can hear myself so much better when it's kicked back compared to flat on the floor. Highly recommend it.

I would highly recommend the Avatar. The Deltalite IIs they use are very light and very powerful. The Avatar 210 is going to have more bottom end and punch than the GK.

As for cabinet orientation, I wouldn't recommend putting any 210 flat on the floor. If it has to be on the floor stand it vertical or better yet vertical on a stool or small table. Sounds wierd but it works great. I saw another option when I recently enjoyed a coffe house jam session with some good friends and their bass player had a little ramp that he pulled out of his gig bag and set his 12" cab on and it sounded great! It looked like he made it himself, think of a large wooden doorstop with the unecessary wood cut away so it looked like a ramp. You could always make yourself something like that to put under the cab to get the tilt, but I wouldn't advise tilting it back while vertical, seems it would be too unstable but you never know till you try.

I gig with Avatar Neo 210 cabinets and absolutely love em'.
But truth is, that's GK's top of their line 210 cabinet, between it and the Avatar.......I'd say flip a coin. The GK's tilt back cabinet is about the only difference.

I prefer to set-up my cabs in the vertical, vertically placing the GK would nullify it's tilt back feature.

Check into the advanages of vertical alignment of the speakers here on the forum, it may or may not be something you might want to take advantage of.

As to tilting back my cabinets on tight stages, I simply place a 3-1/2" piece of hard foam under the front of the cab, works great!

Smaller room=smaller stages= get the tilt back.

I had that Avatar and was not a fan of how mid-forward it is, IME.

That explains why I cut the mids on my GK head...

I think I'll go with the GK Neo 210 since it can be tilted back without having to have an extra stand and I can also stand it vertically.
