Avatar B410 Neo or GK Neo410 for Thrash

Hey guys, new to bass here, not so new to music. I've been playing guitar for about 14 years with a little bass here and there but just joined a thrash metal band playing bass. My bass rig has been pieced together from gear I already had and I'm kind of embarrassed to share it with you guys, but here it is.

Schecter Stiletto Custom 4 -> PreSonus TubePre -> Behringer 2channel compressor -> Behringer 15band EQ -> Crown 402D (900W bridged @ 8 ohms)

Right now, I'm playing through two Yamaha 12" floor monitors. Surprisingly, the rig doesn't sound that bad, but I'd still like to work on upgrading it. Obviously, the first thing I'm looking at is getting a cab.

I'm debating between a Avatar B410 Neo and GK Neo410. I almost went with the Avatar until I found GC is having a sale to where I can get the GK for about $510 out the door (tax and all). The Avatar would run me about $570 since I'd end up going with Tolex.

I've played the GK and I thought it sounded pretty good. I didn't have my EQ hooked up when I tried it, so I think I can get more out of it. And I think the volume is good enough for me. I can't try the Avatar cab so I don't really know what I'm getting but I've read great reviews on it.

So I'm at a standstill and I can't figure out which cab to get. I've read similar threads and a lot of people say, "Get the Avatar, it's cheaper." But, to me it's not. So does that change anybody's opinion? Thanks in advance for any input.

Go with the cab you know. You like the GK, AND it's cheaper. Done.

i have an older avatar b410 kappa 4 ohm cab. it's from back when they were covered in felt. i'm not sure how much different it is from the one you're looking at, but what i can tell you is that mine is totally badass. it weighs about 100 lbs and it is LOUD. i'm talking serious headroom. i've used an ampeg svt-3pro with it for years, and since i hate PA's and sound men i've often relied on stage volume alone. no matter how hard i push this thing it never seems to be working all that hard. it can handle anything, even substantial amounts of overdrive at high volume. granted, my amp is not one of the "big guns" of the industry, but it's fairly powerful. and if you play live you can just tell when a speaker is dependable. the tone it generates is good; solid but not exactly beautiful. and the tweeters that avatar uses are a little cheesy (i never use the tweeter anyway). other than that i would highly recommend the brand.

If you like the GK go for it. You've heard it and its cheaper. You will not be disappointed with the Avatar either, you may find you like it better but w/o hearing it..... Also you may want to check out the Carvin BRX410NEO, I to play in a trash/death band and this cab is a monster and is cheaper than the two you mentioned already. Carvin has a wonderful return policy if you find you don't like it and ridiculous custom service.

But if you have time to wait and you $500 cash in hand I'd would check Craigslist everyday and see if you can land a nice 810 for that price. Times are tough and gear is selling cheap.

given your signal chain, I wouldn't think there would be much difference. The Behringer comp and EQ aren't really things I'd want in my own signal chain. Suprisingly - not just due to the brand...

I'd lose the Tolex and go Avatar.

Here I go being gramps... If you had grown up in the Tolex era - you would actualy appreciate rate fur and Line-X. Personally I'd try to order a bare cab from Dave and a gallon of duratex ...

Tolex looks sweet!... for about 5 moves of the cab ...

Tolex looks way cool on my little guitar combo amps that cab be babied about - on a 4 or 5 cubic foot bass cab ? gimme the industrial strength coating anyday ...

definately some good used deals out there ...
