Avatar B410 NEO vs. SWR Golight 410

Has anyone done a live (is in hearing, not reading specs), direct or indirect comparison between these two cabs?
Avatar B410 NEO vs. SWR Golight 410.I think I am going to buy one of these very soon.
I am always open to suggestions, but I would love it if we could keep this thread on topic.
Thanks all for reading!

I have used both cabs....the Goliath is a punchier tone than the Avatar, but the Avatar
is more diverse in its tones..more mid range...BOTH are VERY good, but it comes down to taste and also what kind of head you are using helps.
Good Luck

Consider a pair of 210 Avatar cabs so you can stack vertically...and you'll pay a lot less for Avatars...

Thanks for your reply- I think I am going with an Avatar 410. I agree with the stacked 210 theory, however it will not work with my current setup. Thanks!

What's your current setup and why won't it work?

I own 2 4x10 SWR Golight coupled to a Genz Benz Shuttle 9. Power House and very light. Love it.

I can't comment on Avatar since I never heard them.

I've owned an Avatar cab, and while it was an alright cab, I still scratch my head when people compare or recommend them over topshelf cabs like SWR. It's been a while since I've played an SWR cab, but unless there have been some severe dips in quality recently, I think it's pretty safe to say that the Golight would be a killer cab.

Just IMHO, of course.

Because...

Both Avatar and Fender/SWR use Eminence Neo 2510 drivers with a custom x-max to match their Neo loaded cabinets tuning goals.
( Note: "Topshelf" manufacturers like Bergantino, Epi, Mesa, ect. also use Eminence 2510 drivers with a custom x-max.)

Both manufacturers use Foster horns.
(One uses a silver colored horn, one uses the standard black colored one, the new Golight's use the black one also.)

Both manufacturers crossovers are from Eminence.

Both use 3/4", 13 ply voidless Birch plywood.

Both use the black Tuff-Rug covering.

SWR uses a plastic side handle, Avatar uses a steel side handle.

SWR uses a finished metal grill, Avatar uses a expanded metal grill.

Both use front, shelf ported 410 cabinets.

The SWR cabinet is 2" deeper than the Avatar.......so there will be a difference in the two manufacturers cabinet tuning.

Here is a link to an older Neo410 thread.
I have measurements posted in this thread.

I like the Neo 410, and would own one if I had an interest in 4x10.
It is pretty flat, other than a hole at 2500 Hz, between the woofer and horn tweeter.

Doesn't ALL commerical manufacturers 410 cabinets exhibit dips, peaks, valleys, holes?

I believe it was BillF that said it was just the nature of the standard configured 410 cabinet's design.

Hello, it will not work because I will be stacking the cab on top of my 8 space rack w casters. I rarely have the floor space to double the footprint.

I own an Avatar Neo 410.
IMO it's a great sounding cab and only weighs 65lb with wheels.

The burgundy tolex doesn't sound as good as the blonde tolex.

Congrats!

I hope you'll be as happy with your Avatar as I've been with my two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets.

As I stated in my other post, cosmetics aside, the biggest difference in most commerically built cabinets is in how each manufacturer tunes their cabinets.
Some manufacturers are using better horns and crossovers than what are used in "most" commerical bass cabinets, but that slight improvement in the highs comes at a very substantially price.
And truth is, (to my ears anyway), in a loud, busy, live band that slight improvement in the highs can't be heard.
