Avatar B410 replacement speaker?

Hi folks,

Sorry if this has been rehashed before, but I've been searching TalkBass as well as Google and I can't seem to figure out what to do.

I have an older Avatar B410 with Eminence Deltas. I think one speaker is blown and I was wondering if I should try to replace the one, or change them out for Neodymiums.

It's an 8 ohm cabinet. One of the speakers sounds blown - it rattles at any volume, and when I press on the speaker cone, it makes a faint scratching sound/feel. The other three speakers feel smooth and noiseless when I do the same thing.

I removed the grille and the offending speaker. It looks like this cab is wired with two speakers in series and then each set in parallel to achieve 8 ohms with 8 ohm speakers.

Notably- the lead to the bad speaker was loose, and when I looked at the spade connector, one half of the connector is missing/broken. I'm wondering if this had anything to do with the speaker breaking?

It sounds like some folks think the Eminence Deltas are unsuitable for bass guitar as well. Are the Neodymium speakers at Avatar's site ok? (10150 Neo?)

Thanks for any input!

I'd call Dave at Avatar and ask him what to do . The easiest would just be to get a replacement Delta from him , the cab is tuned to those any way . The Deltas aren't the best for real low end but they are still punchy and get very good mids as you probably know . You could ask Dave if he thought putting his neos in it would work the way your cab is tuned and he could also give you a price . His prices for replacement speakers in his cabs is very reasonable .

Thanks for your reply -

I emailed the service address at Avatar. I'm hoping to hear back soon.

I was thinking though, that it might be nice to get lighter speakers, especially if they might sound better than the Deltas...

Does anyone know if the Avatar Delta 10" speakers are off the shelf?
