Hey there,

I'm getting pissed of with my current rig and have heard nothing but good about avatar cabs.

Problem is, I don't buy blindly.

I was wondering if there was anyone in or around the city with an Avatar cab that I could try out. I'd just like to plug in one of my basses and a few pedals and play it. Mostly, I want to see how it sounds at a decent volume.

I have seen guitarists with avatars that sound great, but I have never seen an avatar bass cab around town.

I'm looking for a 4 ohm that I could play my 800rb through. 4x10 or 2x12. At this point I'm not sure which I'm looking for, so anyone who has either, or ideally both, let me know.

Obviously, this is your cab, you set the rules. I'm not looking to trash your gear.

Expect a sixer of your favorite brew in return.

Dude, just make the plunge and order the cab.

They're great cabs. You wont be disappointed.

I'm considering that. I am getting annoyed with my current cab. A test drive would be optimal, though.

Can it handle lows? I'm currently running a GK 800rb and am looking for something that won't start losing low end or distorting when I push it.
The lowest note I will ever push through it is a B.

Any testimonials from 800rb+avatar410 or 212 users?

I live in Central Illinois. It's about a 3 hour drive from the city. I play a GK 1001RB through a 4 ohm B410 NEO and I love it, and that sounds like the same system that you have. I don't think you'd be disappointed if you got one. I got mine from a guy off craigslist for 250 (what a steal, huh?). I usually use it with the tweeter at 1/3 in my practice space, with volume at 9 o' clock and boost at 3 o' clock, with eq flat or with mids boosted. I only have four stringers myself, but it's handled C tuning without a problem. If you want to drive here, I'd be fine with you trying it out, but like I said, it's about three hours away.

I'm actually quite interested. I would have to wait until a weekend to make the trip, so let me know when works for you.
I'll have to crunch the numbers see how much gas$ it'll cost.

What town are you in?

I bought (2) B210 NEO cabinets without trying them first.....and have never looked backed! They are great cabinets, and light weight. I use a Carvin B1500 with mine and they sound awesome!

i,m right across the river from quincy il if you ever come down here, you wont be sorry with an avatar. i've played since 75 and on some high end gear and find avatar to be as good or better than any cab i,ve used. you will find no better service than provided by Dave, he is top notch. some people descibe them as the best for the money, they are priced very reasonably but are the best at any price. i would have paid more for mine gladly before buying any other.( ignore that last line if your reading Dave.lol)

Tempted to recommend you cruise on over to Bass Club Chicago and just snag a Bergantino and be done. I had the same thought about ordering an Avatar but after spending some time checking things out over there it was an easy decision to grab the Berg. Obviously there's a huge $$$ difference, but for me it was worth it.

I don't have any Avatars but I do have some BFM bass cabs and I am in Chicago. These are DIY cabs.

I consistently play low Bb thru 2 - avatar sb112's no problem so I dont know why a 212 or a 410 would not play low b just fine. Of course , EQ has alot to do w/ it. I have owned every Avatar made except the 410, and have been very satisfied. I am sure the 410 would be great too.

Thanks for the help guys.

I ended up going with an Ampeg. I tried 212 with my gk800rb and wasn't thrilled with the sound. It wasn't as loud or bassy as I had hoped.
I was going to try the 410 but the ampeg came across at a good price and I went for it.
