Avatar Tolex vs LINE X Coating

Which would you prefer? Is the heavy coating worth it? Or should I ask if the Tolex is very tough?

LINE X is very tough. If you like black, I would get it. I just ordered an Avatar SB112 in blue tolex though because I love their blue color. It's quite "electric". I'm gonna drop a Carvin BX250 on it for my new rehearsal amp.

My two Avatar cabs have them and it's pretty amazing. I don't think they'll ever be scuffed up. I got mine used though so I didn't have to make the choice. I really recommended them if you're on the fence.

I have two DB cabs covered in LINE X and the coating is pretty much indestructable. Avatar's colors are great though so it's a preference thing.

Yeah I've had the heavy coating on a cab before but I'm not familiar with the Tolex... not sure how fragile it is.

It's not fragile. I'd say it's fairly tough. Avatar sells covers too so if you want a color and you're worried about it, just buy a cover for it.
Rat fur's not as bad as it used to be because none of the bars allow smoking in them anymore. At least not around me. Rat fur soaks up cigarette smoke like a magnet. Disgusting!

I'm getting the slip cover no matter which version I go with I really can't make up my mind though... well, the bank funds transfer should be complete by Thursday or Friday I would guess... so I have a few days before I place the order...

My B212s have maroon tolex but I voted for Line-X because the tolex on my cabs is nowhere near as tough as I thought it'd be. It seems more like a vinyl covering. Its nothing like the really tough/thick pebbled tolex on my older cabs.

LineX. Tough, no cover needed, which means easier load.

I've got a custom cab that's coated inside and out. Very tight cab. The maker tested the boxes by throwing them against a wall.

Carpet and fur absorb smoke odors.

I think I am going with the coating but I am getting a cover for just in case whatever... its only $30

Thanks... I figure $30 is worth just keeping rain off it if nothing else.

One thing I've often wondered about the Line-X...I see how it works on truck beds which are hard steel.

But what happens to that Line-X when the soft wood underneath gets crushed?

I prefer rat fur over Tolex myself. If I were buying an Avatar cab, it would have rat fur. I voted for LineX as I'd rather have pretty much a bare cab than tolex.

I don't abuse my cabs, but dings my truck liner cab shrugs off would be permanent scarring on tolex.

I've owned three cabs with polyurea high end bedliner stuff -- I've never made a dent in one that didn't wipe off, despite lots of gigging.
