A/B switches (i think)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
Im looking to be able to use two amps at once, have one amp for clean, and one amp for distorted. i think an a/b switch will do this. however i want to be able to have both running at the same amps outputting at the same time not just one or the other. what would achieve this?

Note:ive also posted this in 'effects' if 'amps' is the wrong place then please delete

A simple Y-splitter. Spending $160 on a splitter is an insult to your own intelligence. Build your own for < $15.

the only reason i'd use a box (i have a morley aby...some folks look down on the morley but it's served me well) is because those y cables break down a lot and don't last very long. if you go the y cable route, make sure to buy a couple of spares.

so is a y splitter similar to a ehx switchblade? because i thought that gave you only one of the other option. but id like to be able to run distorted and clean bass together

a switcheblade is a a/b/y box so you wont be able to run the amps together, but a y splitter cable wont allow you to run them seperately.

if you want to run 2 amps together and separately this is a good option

the switchblade is an ab box...no y to be had. you need an aby box to do both separately and together.

i suppose the y splitter will be the go then, because i could just run a volume pedal after the dirt pedal so that when i only want clean bass i can kill the volume going into the second amp.

Bass--> Y Splitter-->Clean amp
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-->Big Muff-->Volume Pedal-->Second Amp

That'd work perfectly yeah?

I did something similar on a pedal board using a TU-2 by Boss. The muteable output goes to the clean amp, the bypass out goes to the dirt-amp which is controlled by the volume pedal. Result: Clean Amp on/off via the TU-2, Dirt Amp on/off via the Volume Pedal.

Sounds quite nice!!!
