b15 cab with upgraded speaker

I have the chance to pick up a stripped and empty B15 s cabinet. I already have a B15, so I was wondering if I could use a different (more powerful) speaker and use a different head.

Any thoughts? If doable, any speaker suggestions?

Contact Fliptops.net and ask for their recommendation. If you don't have the lid for the cabinet you'll have to get one from them too.

boy, that's a can of worms. first, what is your current b-15 model and what kind of speaker does it have in it? when i had a 77 b-15n and tried its cab with my 64 b-15n, the two cabs didn't mix well at all because they're designed completely different. so the type of b-15 you have will have a lot to do with how they'll work together. if you have a b-15s already, go for it. if you have any other model, i'd try before you buy.

I've not had much success with putting a speaker in a cabinet it wasn't meant for. Usually, cabinets are tuned to the speaker they are intended to be used with. Last time I tried this, the speaker rolloff ended up being just below my open A string. So everything I played lower than that sounded very muddy and puny. You might not have to worry about that too much if your enclosure is sealed, though.

b-15s is ported. however, i do agree with you, pete. i found that the eminence delta 15a that works great in my double baffle cabs didn't work so well in my thiele cab 77 b-15n.
