Question Back to a Rack - EB/DB Doubling Rig

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been gigging with a rane AP 13 pre and an 800RB in a 4space rack. Unnecessarily heavy, especially since I have to wire up the Rane to the board anyway and never get decent monitoring.

The 800RB is in a rack bag that I've had around and the big 4-sp is on Kraigslist. Remaining is a 3 space shallow rack and a desire for a cheap solution for a light rack setup that will fit in that compact box.

So I guess one solution is to throw the rane together with a pre for my electric and a one space power amp. I had a bad experience with a cheap used soundtech 1-sp. Any ideas on reasonably priced not-too-deep1-sp solutions? I really only need about 150-200 4 ohm watts/side.

I'm also trying to figure out whether there is a way to throw maybe a 400RB in with my AP-13. I'm having trouble figuring out whether I can send/return from the 400 through the Rane without coloring the electric bass signal too much. I'm currently only using a piezo.

Here's the manual for the Rane:

Here's the schematic:

Are there any simple and cheap ways to make this idea work? I think I can get a hold of a 400 for $200. Thanks for helping me with my homework!

maybe a more basic question would make more sense -- what do the "expand A&B" jacks do on the Rane?
