I think that Ken's vids are good because you get a sense of the cab by itself and Ken narrates the comparison and the details. Mine are "in the wild", and are made by putting a Zoom H4n out in the house (position depends on the room - in the photo of the outdoor gig you can see it in the foreground), so what you hear is what the audience heard. There are so many variables that online demos have serious limitations but I think you can get an idea of the general character of the cab and how it compares with other choices.

It's crazy about Fodera - they're right near me here in Brooklyn but I've never been. To be honest, the price tags scare me off - but they're great basses. And your Rob Allen - I love that bass. That's one I think I would spring for one of these days. For the type of tune you're using the RA for, I use a 1978 fretless P, but I really dig the RA.
but, I digress ... hoping to score those Baer cabs.

Actually, there's been a bunch of them flipped here. There might even be some now, I haven't looked today.

zippo on CL in the New York area.
zippo on e-bay anywhere.
Doesn't mean something won't surface, but I'm figuring most likely will have to buy new (which I don't usually).

Wasn't too crazy loud so we got to chat and I played the Valkyrie head. The 1-15 cab was there as was the 2-12 (and of course a pair of ML112s. While I already know the cabs well, the head was a new experience. I'm really picky about gear these days and have cycled through some nice stuff until I found things that really spoke to me. The ML112 cabs are working really well for me, and I'm in the midst of a tube infatuation with the Monique preamp through my Tecamp power section. That pairing is unlike any "hybrid" amp I've played - it really is a tube feel and sound. I have to admit that the Valkyrie can cop that same feel and sound. I'm a micro guy, but the tone and the way the amp reacts is pretty spectacular. Roger has done some really interesting things with the amp topology that oddly enough roughly mirrors some of the signal chain tweaks I've stumbled on over the past few years. I was playing it dead flat with some of the tube drive rolled in and I really liked it. It also plays incredibly well with the cabs (as you'd expect). This should be a hit when it hits the streets.

I didn't try the other cabs as I'm not into the bigger form factor and modular works really well for me right now. If I had more bigger halls I'd be all over the 212. It should have a bit more low end push than a pair of ML112s, and it is a great size. I'm just a modular guy. In talking with Roger the 1-15 is a bit smoother through the mids as it doesn't have the same push around 1K that the 12" woofer has. For someone who wants more of a vintage vibe the 1-15 is probably ideal, though I think it will still be articulate due to the 6" driver.

Otherwise, you would have not given up the chance to hear the others! Nice place to be for sure. |

I totally get the modular approach but I'm looking for a cab for when I do play the bigger halls. I have the smaller stuff covered pretty well.
I have a couple of 212s - a GB Neox 212 and the Schoeder 212 with that one 12 angled. Both nice cabs, esp. the Schroeder for its size (although it has its quirks). But I have a feeling I'd like the ML212 better than either based on the descriptions here, esp. with the Streamliner 900.
But a single 112 sounds like it would be great for smaller venues as well ... very tempting to go for the pair.
Very tough call.

Very tough call. | The ML212 is frightening. A serious box. The only solution is to get one ML112 and one ML212. That way you're covered from the smallest to the largest gigs you'll do. Easy! |

Lol nice to hear you want your wife to keep your around. Ok. Fair enough. I want one too, but haven't been in the position to pop for one (or two) yet either. But you're still a troublemaker.
Oh, and I meant pop for one or two Baer cabs. I've had one or two wives. But that's a different story. Lol
