I know Thomas was supposed to get us one last year, but this time, Glenn Kawamoto is on it, so I know it'll happen! |

Doing some much too cheap recording. I'll probably shoot you a pm soon though. We seem to be on a similar tonal path. |

If you would just get to the gym every now and then, instead of the Argentinian restaurant for sausage sandwiches, you would realize that it's really not that heavy! (This one's going to cost me another sandwich, I think) |

Yes it will cost you a Choripan Pampas. But yes the "Val" was off the hook. There were those who thought the "Val" was as good as the Puma 900 but more tonaly flexible. You're right!
What the hell was I thinking. When can I take one for a spin?
One Valkyrie To go please!! Thank you.... |

No good pic of the setup because this stage is a bit tight for a 10 piece. In the first song I looked to my wife out in the crowd and gave my usual "loud enough?" signal and she shook her head. So I cranked it up until she gave the thumbs up. Was running Monique into the Puma 900 power section, first set with the Lull M4v, second with the YYD. The pair of cabs flat out killed. It is good to be a bit loud and drive the band sometimes. I could feel the hair on my arm getting pushed around when I leaned into it (helps when you're standing *right* in front of the cab). Really nice edge and grit from the Monique/ML112 combo. Sax players turned around beginning of the second set and said, "damn, that sounds good."
win.

I find the two cabs together to be not just louder, but more supportive in the low end, which is a good thing when dealing with that many instruments. Just gives everyone a nice cushion to ride on. |

I still like the sound of my Streamliner 900 and PJ5 through the ML112 stack but (like others) look forward to trying a Valkyrie through these cabs. I feel like Goldilocks trying the 3 bear's porridge, or in this case the 3 armadillo's chow. I'd like a little tighter low end with a bit more low mid bump. It looks like the Valkyrie should be able to nail this with its good control in that crucial 40-250Hz zone.
Strings also seem to make a difference with these cabs. The D'Addario Chromes are excellent with my Nordstrand-loaded PJ5 but I'd like a bit more treble extension. The DR nickel LoRiders which are great on my single coil jazz (Carvin SB5000) are good on my PJ5 but don't quite have that low mid meat of the flats and a bit more zing at the high end than I like with the PJ5. I 'm going to try a set of D'Addario half rounds and possibly a set of Thomastik Jazz TI Flats. There are nuances in the strings which I can't seem to account for with eq and adjustments on my bass knobs.

I think the extra clarity in the upper mids you get from the ML's let's you hear some upper harmonics and overtones that you don't typically get from a lot of cabs. In the past, I can't say that I was ever very critical about my strings. I tended to buy whatever, as long as they fit and weren't too expensive. With the Valkyrie and the ML112's I really hear the difference between different strings much more clearly and now I'm a lot more picky about what I use. |

They're not quite as bright as their hex-core sets, and have a little fuller bottom end... they might give you what you're missing with the LoRiders. |

Was tempted to try low riders, but if it ain't broke...... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
