| | Registered User | | | | | My ML112 should arrive some time today. I'm pairing it up with a Buster 200. Hopefully it will be a good combination. I'll be comparing with a Berg HS-210. Can't wait to try it out.
I read all of this thread part 3. A lot of good information and I appreciate the contributors. I guess I'll have to go back and read parts 1 & 2. |

Graphic Designer, Zon Guitars | | | | Forgive me if this is blasphemy, but I was wondering if anyone out there in Baer land would know of anyone who makes custom grill covers? Looking for something similar to the cover on my Mesa PH412 cab, which I just love to death.
It's classy but still kind of mean... it just has a look about it that I love and I'd love if my ML212 had something similar going for it.
Don't get me wrong... I LOVE the industrial utilitarian vibe of the ML212 too... I just like having options.
Thanks! |

I stayed away from grill cloths because I can remember twice having my grill cloths broken on gigs, with both cases involving the broken wooden frame nicely skewering my drivers. |

Other than an occasional tear or two, I've never had issues with cloth grills in the past (even playing in pretty serious metal bands), and now that I'm older and much more careful with my stuff I'm even less concerned about that kind if thing.
I'm barely ok with woodworking... I've managed to get through a few projects around the house with a decent amount of success but... With my current schedule and kids and everything else, I'd rather pay to have it done right.
It's not a huge deal... I'll keep looking around and if I don't find anything, I'm just fine with the way it is. |

| | This time, I didn't forget the gravy... Graphic Designer, Zon Guitars | | | | Just sat and stared at my cab for a half hour and realized it wouldn't be possible to do anyway.
There's no way a vertical or horizontal center brace could be added easily from what I can tell... and I think the cab is big enough where it would need that support in the middle to adequately protect the speakers.
No big deal... Still the best cab I've ever had, hands down. |

| | Registered User President, Baer Amplification | | | | | You could put a brace across the center between the woofers, but the main issue is going to be the frame wood blocking the port openings. It may not be an issue, but the frame may be close enough to the port openings to effectively alter the tuning and cause turbulence problems. A grill cloth really needs a different design on our part. Maybe at some point if there is demand, we can do that on a future series. |

| | Ultravisitor | | Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Northern California | | My ML112 arrived yesterday and I spent pretty much all evening breaking it in and comparing the Streamliner 900 and Markbass Big Bang through it.
The BB actually showed up two days ago so I was playing them through my LDS 15/6 (3015LF, 18 sound 6nd410, no tweeter crossed over at 800 Hz shown with my STM and since departed MB800) and honestly the Markbass was winning hands down other than in terms of output power.
My old band did ambient dub/electronica stuff and the Streamliner & 15/6 setup was killer for deep but not uncontrollable low end and synthy effects ( See?) but for straight playing it was too wooly, and there was a pronounced "unevenness" from string to string. The Big Bang on the other hand was punchy, present and sounded good across the range.
Just goes to show how much difference a cab makes. The Streamliner through the Baer is an entirely different beast altogether. I've never been able to EQ the 900 to sound this good through the 15/6. Trying to control that super fat low end meant lots of other tonal compromises.
I'm still not sure which head I'll keep (the Markbass has an intoxicating "immediacy" but the Streamliner has taken on new life and is warm and syrupy but with a punchiness that it never had before) but I'm certainly keeping the ML112 and ordering a second when I can. Fantastic cab.

| | Registered User | | | | | First impressions of ML112 Hi all - new to this thread...just got an ML112 a few days ago (purchased from TB member) and finally had time last night to really check it out. Beautifully built, really light and compact.
My "go-to" cabinet for smaller gigs is an LDS 12/6 that I love to death, but was really intrigued by all of the positive reactions to the ML112. My thinking was that if I liked the Baer enough, I'd sell the 12/6 and buy a second ML112 to match.
First reactions - ML is a great sounding cabinet, but doesn't quite have the warmth of the LDS. The LDS also seems to be able to take more from the SL900. It sounds better at high volumes than the ML112. I spent and hour or so a/b ing them, using my Streamliner 900 and precision bass. Together they sound great! So I am torn about what to do - I prefer the LDS on its own, and might just sell the ML112 and have a second LDS built. I could keep both the ML and LDS for use together, but at least based on first impressions, I'd probably still grab the LDS first when only needing 1 cab. My gut feel is to decide which one I prefer and buy its twin - they most likely will work better as a matched 2-112.
I may wait a while and see how this shakes out over time - unfortunately I won't get a chance to gig with it for a while as my current band is retooling (getting a new guitar player up to speed, adding lots of new material).
The good news is that it is a great time to be a bass player - so many good cabs to choose from. I am very impressed with the Baer cabinet, but still not convinced that its the best match for me. Time will tell..... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
