Balance LED on SVT VR

Sign in to disble this ad
Just did a power tube upgrade (GE6550's) along with new 12au7's and 12ax7 PI. Bias set up was easy after a full 2hour warm up. I then hook up my dummy load and apply a 40Hz signal I set the balance led to light up. When I remove the signal the balance led goes out. My question is should I be setting the balance led so that it stays lit even when the signal is removed? Ampeg instructions are not perfectly clear and I could not find an exact answer using a TB/Google search. Any help is appriciated.

The balance only lights with signal, IIRC. Jerrold Teirs could probably verify that...... The manual I have states that the balance lights with signal, if that helps.

Dunno that I've ever set bias/balance on a VR, certainly never paid attention to the lights, I'd have set with meter etc.

But from teh schematics, the light may or may not stay on, depending on the exact match of the two bias settings.

The way the balance light works, I'd suggest paying attention to it ONLY when doing the balance, and ignoring otherwise.
