Ballpark figure for vintage amp overhaul

My 1974 Ampeg V4B died.

What would be a ballpark price for a re-tubing, re-capping, bias job, with other haywire fixed too? It may even need a transformer.

Transformer makes a big difference. Also, parts sourcing, if you put the time in to find the main stuff, saves tech time. Any clue how it died? I had a working but a bit wrong amp fully teched for £120 (I said do a full job), I supplied valves.

how are we to hazard a guess? We don't even know where on this planet you live! That's assuming you're not from somewhere else!

I'm in Vancouver, B.C. Canada.

I wasn't using it much for the past 20 years, and when I did it hummed like crazy and heated up. Then one day I brought to a long jam and it worked for a while then just died on the spot.

With my V4 I think it was about $150-175 for the caps and some other light repair work. Biasing on these amps requires replacing a few resistors, but it should be much. New tubes - assuming 7027s - will probably run you about $80-100. A new transformer will be the big cost. Check out fliptops for pricing.
