Hello All,
Last week when I was playing my bass thru my Bam 210 the clipping light was coming on and the compression led's were lighting up pretty high than normal. When I turned down the volume of the Bam and had the volume of the bass still up it was still doing the same thing except it heard some light distorted sounds coming from the speakers. So I did the usually checks.
1. Check the battery in the bass.
2. Check the cable.
I also tried the bass thru another amp without any issues.
The only thing that has changed in my setup is that I had my pickups and pre swapped out professionally. I thought that was the issue but like I said I tried the bass out on another combo with no issues.
So I called Peavey about it and they said to take it to a local service center. I dropped it off last Thursday. And I called them today about it. They told me they were unable to duplicate any issues with it. So I told them that I will come down tomorrow with the bass and cable I used to see if I can recreate it. What do you guys think? Any ideas of what it could be?
On a side note they told me since they were not able to find any issues they have to charge me $68 for the techs time spent on it. This sounds a little crappy to me. If their isn't an issue why would I go way out of my way to drop it off with them only to come back and pay money. A little upsetting.
What are you guys thinking?
Thanks
Shaun

Also try backing off the low end on the EQ/bass knob, whatever it has. The compressor is just doing what it's supposed to, but I assume this too can be adjusted. It sounds like it may have protected your speakers from blowing if the techs can't find a problem.
And bench fee is bench fee. They might have told you that when you dropped it off, but if it's not under warranty, then some sort of fee is standard. They gotta make a living.

This may be hot but use to own a Music Man Bongo with a 18v pre and never had an issue. I tried the same bass on my other combo without issues. It just seems that the Bam has an issue.

Shaun | 18V pre means absolutely nothing. There are some passive basses that are hotter than actives.
Try turning down your input gain.
Also, just because you used it on another amp also means nothing. Every amps input sensitivity is different, and those that do not have an adjustable input gain usually are set up to accept a very wide range of input signals.

Hopfully it is just the input trim. I will keep everyone posted when I return today.
Thanks

My bass was causing some sounds. It almost sounded like bacon was cooking. When we tried the shops bass, no sound. They are both active basses. So I am trying to think what has changed. Well I did change the pickups and pre on my bass. Here's a little insight into what I changed on my bass. I have an Ibanez SR600 that had the stock bartolini MK1's and stock pre. My amp was fine no noticeable issue. Then I had a professional tech install new USA Bartolini pickups and pre. I did not notice an issue when I first brought it home. It wasn't for a few days till I started to have an issue. So i called the shop were it was installed. I have know these people for a few years. Anyways he said drop it by and he take a look at it. He thinks maybe the pickups or pre might be defective. So here I am now off for the week end baseless. I hope he finds the issue. What do you think?
Thanks
Shaun
