Banana Cables-Where to get some?

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, I don't know squat about speaker wire, so let's get that right out of the way.

I run an Eden WT500, with an Eden 4x10XLT that uses banana cables. I am getting an Eden 115XLT soon and need some more banana cables.

Where do I get some? The Eden website doesn't sell any.

I know these are used for more than just bass cabinets, but I have no clue where to get any, or what to look for in terms of specs.

No, I don't want to convert them to Speakons.

Thanks for any help.

Any guitar shop should sell them. That's where I buy mine.

Just make 'em up yourself. Get some banana plugs with screw terminals and some #16 zip cord. Strip the ends, being careful not to cut any of the copper strands. Twist the bared strands in the direction the cable already had them twisted in to fix the conductor splay, shove them into the plugs, and tighten the screws. Make sure you wire black to black and red to red. Most zip cord insulation has a smooth side and a grooved side to help you keep them straight. Keep your wires only long enough to reach the cabs (maybe a foot or two extra) and you'll be fine. On a 1-to-10 difficulty scale (sorry Bill ) this is a 0. Depending on the type of banana plug you buy, you may have to go back once in a while and re-tighten the screws and/or check for broken conductors.

There may be prefabricated banana-plug cables out there, but this is so easy, I mean, why bother?

Also when you buy your plugs, check what the max wire size is. You want the wire hole to be able to accept #16.

One of many examples: http://www.thenerds.net/BELKIN.Belki...s.AV24000.html

I bought parts and wire at Home Depot to make up cables for my Community pa cabs which I use with a stereo tuner.

Another resource: http://procablesnsound.com/

They are (were?) a TB supporter, and I've purchased from them a couple of times, including last month. Their prices seem reasonable, and turnaround time is quick.

If you want the best, I have a 3-foot and a five-foot ProCo Guardian FatMax that I'll sell you. 8 gauge, man. Bass notes are BIG notes, but nothing's too big for FatMax.

Got it. They are overkill for sure, but I use them just in case I'm wrong about the fact that you can't hear the difference between them and a coat hanger.

As Crown says:

The larger the amplifier, the heavier gauge you will want to use. Generally speaking, runs of 25 Ft or less work well with 14 gauge. Over 25 one should use 12 gauge if possible.
So yeah, 8 gauge will work just fine and then some.
