cab

Actually, I think it was 5 of the same drivers, 1 guitar driver. I have a pretty good idea what drivers were used and this cab should be in the same realm as the old flatbacks, tonewise. The berg nv610 will most likely be more mid heavy and aggressive where this cab will be clearer up top but more smooth in the mids. Not scooped, but flat. I could be way off on this but, I don't think so.

Well, I have the '69er at last! I've been busy yesterday and today, but will get a chance to play it tomorrow on soundcheck and gig.

It's light! The actual weight (with cloth grille option) is 55lbs. Obviously it's large being a 6x10, but it's quite shallow, and moving it around is easy. I can lift it with one hand for a single short manoevre, but for a lengthy lift I would use the recessed side handles. It also has a strap handle on the top rear and rear plastic castors for wheeling it over smooth surfaces.

I'll report more when I've played through it. For some reason, I can't upload a pic, but here's a link to my new setup

According to BF website, recommended amp power is

30-400W RMS (all valve/tube)

100-800W RMS (solidstate)

...I think everyone who has an SVT wants one. I do, but not much info on the Barefaced site. Would be nice to see/hear more hands on accounts before parting with $$$ and then enduring the wait time. Shrink therapy territory for me

+1. I'd love to hear one. I've never found a cab that sounds as smooth and sweet as my 72 8x10. Plus at almost 80lbs lighter and much smaller I'd save some serious transport hassle. My only concern would be placing a 90 lb head on a cab only 2/3 its weight.

Interesting. I like mid heavy and aggressive more than smooth. Wonder if the NV610 won't remain my fave of these two...

It won't play quite as loud as a modern 8x10" but it'll play louder than an original 1969 8x10". It isn't designed to have flat response, it's designed to sound like an old flatback 8x10" does if you stand in front of it, and the .5 alignment (cutting out the upper mids and treble from one column of woofers) is designed to help spread that authentic tone around the room better.

Didn't expect it to end up quite so light but the power of the CNC machine is you can be pretty cunning with bracing and we've got quite a few years of experience in how to build cabs light but strong and each new design benefits from that.

I'm sure it'll handle a reasonably large band's personnel all balanced on top of it! When you make a cab stiff enough to sound good at high SPL it'll always be strong enough to take the weight of the heaviest amp imaginable (I wonder what that is? Peavey Classic 400? PJB T500?) stacked on it.

Had this from '69er owner #1: " I had a practice tonight with the band, which was a great opportunity to spend three hours experimenting with the eq. At first, I was still having problems getting clarity in the low end at volume. With some twiddling on my bass and amp EQs, things were getting better, then I cut the bass eq on the amp and boosted it on the bass and bingo! Big smile on my face. I immediately took a picture of the amp so that I have the settings on record. Basically treble and mid cut, bass eq on amp at 12 o'clock, and a boost of the instrument's bass eq.

I'd describe the tone as clear and even, with a big, smooth low end. Not hifi at all, but with lovely hollow/woody/resonant timbre. I don't know whether this is in line with your opinion or intention, but that's how it seems to me. I'm very happy with it!"

What about the tone when we play with a passive bass ?
I can boosted the bass frequencies only with my amp ( Alessandro Basset Hound), because I have only passive basses (Gretsch only).
Have you a date of launch on the market? It has been year since I look forward to your cab.

What kind of amp/bass? Environment? Took a picture and didn't send it? Need more before I write a check to Barefaced....and I really/sincerely want to.

If you are boosting bass, the low end roll off of a sealed cab is probably not what you want, better off getting a cab that sounds right to start with than eqing it in, so get a cab with less of a bass roll off.
