Bass amp with electric guitar

Sign in to disble this ad
Was just wondering if I could use my bass amp with an electric guitar? Would it affect the sound quality in a noticeable way? Would I have to have restrictions on volume? etc.
Any help appreciated, thanks!

I know a few guitarists that use bass amps for jazz cause it usually gives a nicer clean tone, I have yet to see any use them outside of jazz though

I can't think how it could hurt to try. Either you'll like it or not.

One of my favorite guitarists I've had the pleasure to work with used a rotation of bass amps. I'm pretty sure one was a Fender Bassman.

A long time ago I knew a wicked good slide player whose favorite amp was a 50W Bassman (Magic Dave, where are you?). When he cranked it up to peak mojo it was just the right volume, and the tone killed.

I used my SVT-CL and V4BH with a reverb pedal and they make killer clean guitar amps when you set them for cleanish tones. I dumped them into a B52 guitar cab that can take a 100+w tube amp on bass overdriving. Oh, the SC120 sounds good on guitar too. Very clean. From what I hear, my B15N won't sound bad either.

Fender have re-issued Bassman bass heads sometimes ago. As guitar heads. That says something.

Your tone would gain much more bass response compared to guitar heads.

It depends on what guitar sounds you're looking for. You might try a modeler (POD, etc) in front of it. Only way to find out is to try it!

I often play guitar through a Fender BXR60. Wicked loud clean tone.
If you put some sort of modeling in front, it sound excellent.

I had an old Sunn Concert Bass as a back up head that I never used and one day I plugged straight in and turned the volume all the way and it was one of the best sounds I had gotten.

I love bass heads for guitar since they are usually a little cleaner sounding and I'm a big fan of headroom

It won't hurt anything although I'd advise turning the tweeter down if using distortion. Not only can it sound bad, distortion carries more upper harmonics that can overload and blow tweeters. Other than that, you can do it, whether or not it sounds good is a matter of opinion.
