Bass Amp Maintence & Repair

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently own a Fender BXR head, and cabinet which I purchased quite some time ago.
I think there is an issue with the head. The volume knob in particular seems to crackle when turning it. The other thing I noticed is an annoying noise (It's minor, but it's there) when I use the chorus button on the amp.

The cabinet is a 4x10 Fender matching cabinet.

Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot where the crackling, and other noise is coming from?
If there is something wrong with the head, is it worthwhile to get repaired?

I'm looking for an excuse to upgrade. I don't gig right now though, so maybe I should ditch the 4x10 for a combo? I could just get a new head, and use the cabinet for a while.

most likely you just need to turn the volume knob all the way up and down a bunch of times. if that doesn't work, you could try cleaning the volume pot with deoxit contact cleaner.
