Bass Cab Recommendation

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm needing some advice on a new cab. I currently play through a Hartke 3500 and 410TP cab. Both are about 10-12 years old. I really like the amp and would like to keep it but trade out the cab. I play mostly as a hobby with a band about 2-3 times a month. We play folk rock/alt-country.

My bass is a Musicman Stingray and I also use a Sansamp Bass Driver. I'm looking for a cab that will sound good but not break the bank. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Peavey TVX cabs and Traynor/Yorkville. Even SWR cabs aren't as expensive as people may think.

I'm probably looking at $500 or under, maybe a little more if I can sell my current cab. I play mostly small to medium size venues. Would a 410 still be the best bet for me? I've never heard of Traynor/Yorkville. Any opinions on them? Thanks for the response.

Well, there have been some improvements and new offerings in the last ten years. And the TP was Hartke's budget line, right?

Let's start with this: What DON"T you like about your current cab?

If you play folk-rock/alt country, you must know your way around a tool belt . Build a BFM or fEARful cab(s) to get the best for your money.

I bought a pair of Ashdown 210 cabs used at Guitar Center today for $325. There are the cabs built in the UK and they sound great. Look around at some used stuff...there are some deals out there.

honestly if i were in the market for a cab i'd definitely be looking at that Avatar TB153. price to performance ratio seems too good of a deal to pass up.

Does it have to be "NEW"? I personally always buy used with the exception of some things that I KNOW will be staying with me for years to come. A $500 budget can go a long way when you buy used, you can even land an 810 if you want.

Suggestions that I listed before were around the $100 to $200 range. Yorkville is a good Canadian company with a solid reputation for making reliable gear.

You can build a fEarful cab. The mainstream brands, I like Mesa's 410s, and heard great things about SWR Goliaths.

I have had a few problems with my current cab, although it has done pretty well in the decade I've had it. I'd really like to switch to paper cones and have a cab that will last. I'm absolutely open to used gear. Much of my gear was purchased used. I'll keep my eyes open for good used gear.

As far as the Avatar cabs, would you recommend the TB153 or the B410?

Thanks everyone for the replies. You've really helped a lot.
