bass cab/stack

hey fellow noise makers

im looking for a new bass head and cab (stack). just started in a new band (ac/dc tribute) so i don't have a lot of money after buying myself a nice new bass in the range of £250-800 could someone guide me in the right direction as i am still a little new to cabinets as i have only ever used combos

Yup, shop for used gear, find an amp with 300-500 watts, and pair it with as much speaker as you can afford. Spend more on the speakers than the amp. A 4x10 is as small as you'll want.

+1 on spending more on speakers than a head. I prefer new cabs to used due to the abuse factor . Heads take a beating better ( such as Ampegs) and should last until you get something else. I am sure forum members across the pond can help you......................

I just kept my eye on eBay and such, stuff became available at a great price after patiently waiting.

As far as what to actually buy, it's difficult to say. The best advice you're likely to get from anybody is to find a music shop nearby, and sample what they've got. See what you like the sound of, also find clips online too, that's what I did. I couldn't actually try my head anywhere so I had to rely on YouTube and others opinions.

My cabs are a Peavey 410 and a Peavey 115 stack, they're a few years old but are in good condition. Built like tanks, you can't to wrong really.

I agree to buy used though, you'll save a fortune.
