The way I hear it, the fieldy sound is less about amps and more about how he plays and his EQ setup.

Scooped Mids, clean amp sound (if I recall right), fresh strings with top sizzle and slappa da bass (if you can call it that).

However if you really want to push that F# tuning with this kind of sound... whew. Have you tested any amps yet?

I think you spelled Corn wrong. it's not "Korn". It's "Corn"...as in, "that so called music is really corny".

As mentioned, get any amp and cut the mids right out. His "tone" is a clicky treble sound with low end to fill it out.

That's helpful

Oh come on now lol.

Korn - roughly 35 million worldwide.

Staind - over 15 million worldwide.

Mr. April, I dig your band and that you post on here, but I call:

I would try and grab a 12 or 15 with a tweeter. EQ smiley face (), active pup-preamp with lows up, mids non existent and highs about half. Then tune down and slap the sh*t out of it. I like the ampeg combos for the price. they sound pretty good for SS, china made. I play through the BA-112 at home for practice.

You can take solace in the fact that your music is far better then their's.

This thread makes me laugh, as Fieldy has the absolute worst bass tone I've ever heard. And I LIKE this kind of music. Korn is just a terrible, corny version of heavy music.

Get a GK combo with a countour button or knob. Turn it all the way on. This takes out all of the mids and exagerrates the bass and treble. That's fieldy's tone. Make sure it has a compresion driver in a horn. Something like a used 700RB 112 or 210 combo would fulfill this in spades. I "think" the MB combos have piezo tweeters which would not liekly be as effective, and I'd have to check to see if they hae countour as well. The bigger, heavier 700RB combos would work better anyways.

Get something with a tweeter, kill all the mids and turn up sub-175hz. Use new roundwounds and whack the bass like its a percussion instrument.

Whoa! That's funny as hell! Well Johnny does a lot of really good things for people in need, so I think we can forgive him his first world problem here. As for me, I'd be happy to sell 15 albums

I really don't get all they Fieldy hate and general jackass-ness whenever his name is mentioned. If you aren't a fan or don't have anything constructive to contribute - keep quiet and move on. This thread is about how the OP can achieve a specific tone, not your opinion of the tone, the player, or the band he plays in.

The guitars in that band take up a lot of sonic landscape, and while it's not a tone I would ever want or have any use for, he has figured out a unique way to fit into the mix and be heard, IMO. Like has already been said, cab with a tweeter, scooped mids, stainless steel rounds, tune down, beat the bass like it owes you money.

You dont need a tweeter. You can easily achieve his tone with a 15(s).

While the sound is somewhat "scooped", it's not as radical as some are mentioning. To get it fully dialed you'll need a 10 band EQ and some compression. To get started have a slight boost in the lows around 60-120, cut the mids a little, and just a tiny boost up around 3-6k.

Understand- getting this sound dialed in alone at home is not going to be the same as with a band. By yourself at home you will over-scoop the EQ and be happy. Once with the band it will be too scooped and you wont hear anything but boom. You'll have to add some mids back in. Trial and error.

About 80% of this sound is playing style. On the parts you dont slap you need to really really dig in. Hard. If your fingertips are raw after 3 songs then you are getting started in the right direction. Depending on your bass you may need to raise your action just a little.

Hope this helps.
