Sign in to disble this ad
I have decided im going to go buy a new bass rig. Ive decided on the Avatar B210 Neo (red tolex with a medal grill for what its worth) i havent got it yet so it can be 4 or 8 ohms. the speakers are rated at 250 watts each.

im playing fender deluxe p bass special btw.

I was wanting some bass head recommendations. somewhere in 300$-400$ range give or take.
4 or 8 ohms
up to 500 watts

Look for used Eden heads - love the warm creamy tones. I bought a 1990's WT300 for $300 used. It was a dollar per watt - not bad.

The realistic power handling of that cab is probably closer to 250 watts. Get it in 8 ohms with a decent head so you can add another Avatar 210 if you need more volume. You can find a used GK 700RB-II in that price range for sure, maybe even a 1001RB-II.

+1
I have this cab-8 ohm(mine is the standard carpet-covered), and GK amplification just sounds soooo good through it. However, and I know it can be a pain in the a**, but when you get it, take it out and try some heads on it. Most music stores with any give-a-damn actually recommend you bring your own stuff when trying out any new piece of gear.
Definitely recommend the 8 ohm, ^^^as you can add a second down the road if you ever feel you need it.

I have the 4ohm version and it goes great with my Carvin BX 500 amp. I chose not to carry around 2 8ohm speaker cabinets and still get all the power I need.

Your cabinet will fart out long before you actually got to use all the power of the head. Even the 8 ohm cab would probably fart out under the Carvin. 500w RMS/cab is the maximum power before catastrophic speaker failure when the voice coil melts down. 250w/cab is a more accurate fart out estimate.

I'd go with something to warm up that cabinet like a Shuttle 3.0 or 6.0 or even a Markbass LMII

I use mine with an old SVT-3pro... and it sounds amazing. I use it for small gigs (less than 50-60 people) without PA support, and it has no problem keeping up with the full band.

plus, I can carry my head and cabinet at the same time (one in each hand)
