Bass head help

Sign in to disble this ad
I was jamming yesterday and all of a sudden my bass head went from a clean sound to distorted, the only problem is I'm going straight into the head from my bass with a lead, no effects.

I'm using a 400w head with tubes and a Warwick thumb bass in C tuning

The other suspect thing is it only distorts when I put the volume past half way ***!

Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe tubes on the way out? Iv also heard I may have run out of clean headroom? If so how do I get more of this clean headroom!

Are you sure it's not just a blown speaker in the cab?

Try a different cab, try changing the batteries in your bass, then try a different head...and see where that gets you...

C tuning as in a low C below the usual E? Anything below that E is guaranteed to punish your speaker if you try to make the fundemental tone in volume.

I believe the battery may be dead in your bass. I've had this happen with Warwicks before (I have a NT Thumb)

New 9volt should solve your problem.

Yeh iv checked the speakers they're not blown, changed the battery, checked all leads. Yeh I'm in drop C tuning, and the heaviest string C is the one to distort first then the others, someone suggested my tubes are about to blow
