Bass rig question

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a Heartke 250 Head (250 for each high and low inputs) on bi-amp through a Peavey black widow/horn (I'm pretty sure I only have the horn running but I would have to confirm) and a Seismic bass cab. Active electronics. Both running at 4 Ohm.
If I began running into bigger gigs, would I simply need to chain some more cabs/monitors/ect through it like i have? Or would I need to upgrade to a more powerful Head? Or am I going about this all wrong?

More info...

1. What is a Peavey Black Widow/Horn? A Black Widow is a speaker and a horn is, well, a horn. Is this a 4X10, etc?

2. What is the Seismic?

3. Do you have a link to the head you're talking about?

When you say both are running at 4 ohms, are they both 4 ohm cabs? Hence, running a 2 ohm load? If I'm reading about the correct head, it can only do 4 ohms. I'd stop that real quick unless you want to release the magic smoke.

Go to the top of the amps forum and read the FAQ. Then come back and ask questions.

Excuse me. Allow me specify.
Seismic is a bass cab with 4 4X10's if memory serves.
I can't see the black widow. Its bigger than a 4X10 (I'm a novice at this)
And on top it has a "horn" under the mesh that puts out the higher frequencies (I play a 6 string bass)
Each cab is taking a 4 Ohm load. It is an 8 Ohm amp. Sorry for the confusion.
Once again, I'm a novice at this. I'm not overloading the set up (as ive been using it for say...near year and a half)
I'm curious as to how I would go about expanding this rig.

Pending that info is correct, which I don't believe it is: If the amp is an 8 ohm amp and you're running a 4 ohm cab, you're overloading the setup. Anything less than an 8 ohm cab would be overloading it. By less, I mean a smaller number...like 4

I think you should post a pic so we can see what you have and then a valid assesment can be made.

I too think you should post a picture of your 4 410s plus other cab being driven by a not-overloaded 8-ohm head. It will qualify you for membership in any number of clubs.

But, seriously, bro. Read the stickies and you will learn at least enough to ask the question you are trying to ask. For reals.

Let's try and put all this into perspective. I'll guess the OP made a typo and meant he is running a Seismic 4x10 and a mystery cab with "A" BW driver + a horn. Possibly a 1x15? I googled "Hartke 250" and got to a Hartke 2500, a 250W mono amplifier (I guess) at 4Ω. Guessing again that both cabs are 8Ω then he is running the full 250W into his cabinets. What he is trying to say re the bi-amping I'm not sure.

Can the OP confirm my thoughts please?

Hopefully both cabs are 8-ohms. Otherwise... dunno, head might give out after a while?

Yes, a picture is worth at least as many words. And +1 to reading the stickies- it may educate the op enough to ask the question in a way it can be understood, and properly answered.
