Bass Rig Suggestions Ampeg SVT 3, Aguilar GS 410

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all,
long story short-within the past few months I've been slowly collecting some decent gear, and I want to assemble a respectable/solid bass rig. I'm fairly new to amps and impedance and all of that good stuff, and I don't want to be pairing something stupid.

I'm getting ready to pick up an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro, and my friend told me today that it would sound really good through a 6x10. What are your thoughts and or suggestions on this?

I already have an Aguilar GS 410 (8) what else should I be on the look out for to make this hypothetical new rig work? Is there anything I can pair with this, or should I just look for a 6x10, or am I doin' it wrong?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Also, I just picked up a Sterling Musicman Ray 34. (Orange sunburst) I'm really happy with it so far, and it's pretty. Stoked.

Plug the SVT-3 Pro into the Aguilar 4x10. It will sound fine; play it and love it.

A 6x10 is "more" but it still won't write you a chorus!

+1, what you've got is fine. If you want it to get louder, add another 8 ohm 410, and you will be LOUD.

I prefer the 3-Pro into a 15" (or 2x15) or the 410HLF myself. Great head, just be sure to search the threads on setting the correct gain structure to get the most out of the amp.

Awesome, I appreciate the thoughts guys. I'm just really worried about pushing the 4x10 too hard-I play hard and loud, I'm really paranoid about messing up my speakers.

Any particular 410 that would compliment this set up the best? I can't afford another GS 410, and the chance of one practically being given to me again are very very low. I do, however, see Ampeg 4x10's for dirt cheap in my area all the time.

anything but another gs410 will be a bit of a crapshoot since mixing cabs results in unpredictable results.
