Bass Terror + Ampeg Cab = No Sound

(First post, may be in wrong section...)

Alright here's my setup -

- Orange Bass Terror (500w)
- Ampeg BSE410HLF (400w, 4ohms)

I am using a 1/4" speaker cable with a single neutrik speakon adapter to connect the two.

This combination has never produced sound, at all.

Thought there was a problem with the BT and sent it away to Orange where they replaced a blown cap. Got it back and there is still no sound.

Did a 9v battery test with the cab, cones move outward while making a popping sound.

I have no other cab to test the amp with and vice versa but at this point I am assuming there's a problem with the cab.

Both have repair warranties. I will probably end up taking it to the shop on Monday but this has been killing me not knowing what the problem may be...

Are the Speakons on the cable 2-pole or 4-pole? If 4-pole, you might need to reconfigure them to make sure there is actually a connection being made.

Exar's business is on hold for now. I will still help previous customers.

+1 the quick n easy way to find out, (if you don't know how to re-wire the Speakon cable ends) is to get a simple 1/4" speaker cable, and plug them together.

The speakon adapter is 2 poles like this one here...the cab does not have speakon compatibility so I am using an adapter along with a 1/4" cable.

I would first try a cable that is speakon at one end and 1/4" at the other. I have one of these for my 1/4"-only cabs. The adapter sounds potentially fishy to me, and this would help eliminate the cable as the cause of your problem.

Ding ding ding! Went out bought an actual 1/4" to Speakon cable and it works like a dream now.

If only it weren't too late to really crank it...
