Basslite for Peavey Combo 300?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone tried the Eminence Basslite C2515 as a replacement? I have an old Peavey Combo 300 that may need a speaker replaced(still checking). I was wondering if the Basslite would be an option as a replacement. I saw an older post on here where a guy was going to put a Basslite in a Combo 150 but if he did do it there was no post telling the outcome. I can get another BW or another 15" as a replacement but the Basslite would bring the combo down about 15 pounds. This Combo is a tank! I'm not planning on moving around too much though. Btw...I paid $60 for it so I'm replacing the cloth grill with a metal grill. As I stated before I'm not sure about the speaker just yet...only doing a little research just in case I need to replace it. Thanks.
Also, the speaker has to be 4 ohms and at 4 ohms the combo's output is 210 watts.

You can get a replacement speaker from Peavey 1502-4BW, the spec's for the basslite call for a 3.0 cubic foot enclosure, and the combo 300 is no where near 3 cubic feet, if the speaker that is in the existing combo 300 is a black widow, just get it reconed, I did it to mine and it sounds good for what it is

The Combo 300 cab interior is fairly small - about 2.2cf before deducting for the speaker. It's also tuned fairly high. Don't have mine here to measure, but it's probably 70hz or higher. Most speakers you put in there will give you a pronounced mid-bass hump... definitely true for the Basslite, which needs a larger box. Two speakers that do better than most in this cab are the Eminence 3015 and the Black Widow. The 3015 (8 ohm only) is a superior speaker, but IMO, too expensive to waste on this cab.

As I said in your other thread, I doubt there's anything wrong with your BW, and I'd leave it alone.
