Bassman 135 or V4B?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am 0- 2 on craigslist for the V4b, I just found a Bassman135 head on there and was wondering if this was as good a head as the V4B? or should I just wait to find a V4B? Any input would be great, thanks

Never heard a Bassman before, but I have a V4 and it rocks, really really hard, I love it and will own for the rest of my life. So that tells you how I feel about the V4/V4B.

WAIT for the V4-B or a V4. The Bassman is ok, the V4-B is classically great.

Or you could get the Bassman and when you find an V4B you move the Bassman my way and buy the V4B.

I'm a fan of the sound of the bassman135's put they can be a little weak for some gigs. The V4B has a bigger transformer and is more geared towards being a bass specific amp instead of kind of an all-purpose thing like a lot of amps were. My 135 has since had a pair of tubes pulled and re-biased. Makes a good guitar amp now.

I've compared my Ampeg V4 to my 135 watt Ultra Linear Twin Reverb (Its amp section is fairly similar to that Bassman 135 model) through the same Bergantino NV610 cab. The Fender had a really nice warm/woody tone but ran out of usable volume pretty quick with my band.

My V4 had way more headroom, low-mids and was just a way better all around bass amp for me. I'm sure there's lots of guys around here that would prefer that Fender, (maybe even you) but If your looking for the Ampeg tone, feel and vibe, you just wont get it with that Bassman.

i would should wait for an Ampeg V4/V4b. IMO, it's a way better sounding amp for bass.

i actually prefer the tone of Bassman 100 over the 135 , but the V4 has more low end, better tone (always subjective) and 'feels' like more power than both of them.

Don't overlook a nice V4, tone control points are a little different but still sounds like a V4 (-B)!

I recently picked up a Peavey AlphaBASS, and IMO it compares quite well to both - they can often be had for $200-$300... You might want to keep an eye out for one of those...
