Basson 4x10: Worth a shot?

I don't know jack about Basson cabs. But I just spotted one at a killer price... so what's their deal? What companies do they rub elbows with when it comes to quality, tone, etc?

I've never run them but I've always heard that they're solid and can sound HUGE if you put a whole lot of power into it.

basson cabs are insanely heavy and require insane wattage to use even a 410. if you don't use insane wattage, the speakers won't work and will burn out. add that to the fact that basson recently went out of business, and it all equals "not something i'd buy." ymmv, but no way i could ever use one.

Ah... I see.

It's $109 at GC Akron, in case anyone DOES have big power, a strong back, and the need for such a cab.

that's a darn good price. wouldn't buy it if i didn't already have a high power amp, but if i did, i could be talked into it at that price.

Me too. But I have a 1001RB and the cab is semi local. I don't need it! I don't need it! Agree with me, quickly!

If you have a rehearsal space where you leave your gear setup, I would definitely consider that cab and just leave it parked there. That's a very good price. That way you could keep you gigging cab for just that... Unless of course you have to move gear to and from rehearsals frequently. At that point I'd just pass... But I'm a wimp

I own and play through one of theses cabs. Although they are very heavey and it is definately a two person job to load it into a car, I think it sounds great. The cab will pretty much put out as much low end as you want it to providing you have the power. I run mine with a Crown XLS 402 and it works just fine! And at $109, that's a steal.

Sorry to derail this thread, but I'm planning to check out that GC this weekend. Did you happen to notice if they had any Mesa cabs in stock there?

$109 sounds like a typo to me.

There's probably something for $109 that you'd get better use from, musically or otherwise.
Or buy it and save some money for chiropractic

I think the tag boy got mixed up and printed the weight instead of the price.

HA! It's a heavy cab...

I was kind of contemplating it for a practice space rig, but don't need it or have a power amp to power it properly.
If it's around when I get bored, I'll go get it just to have it for that price. Almost ANY 4x10 is worth $100 if it works, as far as I see it.

I have the 210 version. Yes, it's ungodly heavy, takes a good deal of power, but sounds really good. The Basson 210 and Trace-Elliot head are my backups. My primary is an SWR SM-400 and a pair of Golaith 3's. If your playing rock or metal, the Basson has more of those thunder like lows than any cab I have ever played including Ampegs, IMHO. For $109 take it and try it. If you don't like it return it.
