Beaten up Mesa 400+ : Facelift Possible?

Sign in to disble this ad
I found a great deal locally on a Mesa 400+. I owned a 400 for a few years and loved it, hard for me to imagine better tone and feel from a head. The 2-ohm functionality on this is a great bonus since my dream has always been to run two 6x10's with it...

However, this thing looks like it's been through a few wars and could really use some touching up on the front face.

Anyone have thoughts on how to fix one up cosmetically? I imagine the original paint job was a powder coat.

how beat up? could look cool. i would just leave it. as long as it still sounds great, doesn't matter. otherwise it would be easier to just find a cleaner looking 400+.

A great deal is a great deal, if it works like it aught to. Although I haven't seen it, my impulse is to say leave it. Some things need patina.

Have someone knowledgeable remove the guts and have the case bead blasted and re-powder coated. Shouldn't be too much money.

I'd use this as an opportunity to make it a whole new color (like silver) and have no markings on it. Replace the knobs with hi-fi looking ones and whammy!! Top secret weapon that'll drive people nuts.

Why didn't anyone ever tell me bossa nova sounded so good?

I do not believe they are powdercoated. I had one that was scratched up, and going by the way it scratched, it came off like regular old paint.

Just call Mesa and see if they have a new front panel.
