A few weeks back I had a rehersal at a studio with a TraceElliot ~300w head+marshall cab that just sounded fartastic no matter how much I dialed it and tweaked it, the lighter string were barely heardable, the heavier strings would make a a huge boom and muffle any other instrument, in short it was a total mess.
Next week I took my BBVA plugged it in the return fx loop, the whole band was amazed it sounded so good while playing in the exact same amp.
Got to try it live again this weekend, BBVA L-out in the return fx loop of a Warwick ProFet 5.1 (which I love the sound btw) driving a 4x10 + 1x15 stack, R-out to the FOH mixer
I didnt need a single tweak apart from the volume level on the amp, the soundguy loved it as well, got my sound check done in 20 seconds, everything sounded awesome.
+1
Whenever I need to use someone else's amp, I run right around back of it for the effects return or power amp in jacks
Now if I could just figure out how to get the MIDI/PC editor to talk to each other. I may have been bitten by a cheap USB interface cable. Great sadness....

I've just registered myself here after reading the first V-AMP-PRO-thread partly.
I have ordered this unit yesterday. The decision took me a couple of weeks. Now a few hours ago I realized, that about half of the preamp simulations actually seem to be not made for electric bass guitars, but for keyboards and acoustic basses. That's why I started to search for more informations on the sound and useability of the "guitar"-section, since the names of the sounds being shown there on the surface of the unit are making me wonder, if this really is what I was actually searching for.
First I would really like to say a big THANKS to CharlieC for what he is doing here!!! It's actually funny - I was hoping to find out just anything useful about this preamp, and now there is this thread that started off many years ago and is still active! My first thought was that he must be working for Behringer, but I guess he is just a very friendly guy who has the time and really loves his equipment.
Now I hope that I will soon be able to join the "V-AMP-Squad" too, hehe.
Well, about my situation:
I play an Ibanez Artcore jazz bass with nylon-coated flatwound-strings (Rotosound black nylon). Usually, I keep the tone- and volume-pots very low, monstly both on 2, to create a kind of double-bass-like sound.
(If you are interested in what that sounds like, here's a sound sample: https://soundcloud.com/overtonemagic/kontrabass-artiger-e-bass
It shows the pure instrument-sound without any amp or tone-modifying effects being used.)
I haven't got any real bass amp or pre-amp yet, since I'm a guitarist and got really serious about bass-playing just a few months ago. Up to now, I was mostly using a guitar preamp when playing bass.
So what I need now is a bass pre-amp that fits to my way of playing the bass, giving me a dynamic, round, mellow jazzy sound with little attack.
Would you say that I can get this out of the V-Amp Pro or not? And how would do that?
I really don't know much about bass equipment yet, so I have no idea what the simulated amps are like in reality, how and in what styles of music they are used typically, and I don't know what most of the names of the sounds stand for - for example: What's so special about british bass amps that there are so many of them?
Oh, and I have another question: Do you know where to get the full manual from? On behringer.com I found only the quick-starter guide, and on that guide was standing that the full documentation could be downloaded on behringer.com...
Any kind of help would be very appreciated!
Greetings,
overtonemagic

Overtonemagic, I hate to ruin a fun party, but I stopped using my vamp-pro months ago and replaced it with the blue-faced guitar unit I also have...After using both back and forth for months I was also running into a roadblock with the bass vamp and found that the blue-face has more to offer for what I also need it for.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Is this what you mean by "blue-face"?
These seem no longer to be produced, as I just found out on Ashly.com.
What was the problem you had with the Behringer V-Amp, and which of your needs couldn't be satisfied by it?

Cheers!
Thank you very much, #1!
Not sure, what "hogging the floor" means - it sounds like something nasty.
The fact that the manual has disappeared from the Behringer site tells me that the Bass V-Amp Pro may go the way of the Dodo bird pretty soon like the V-Amp Pro.
I've uploaded the manual to my site for you. You can find it here.

I don't use my BVpro as much as these days. Ever since I broke the "Bank Up" button, it became a studio box. As a simple amp and cab sim, I continue to think that it does a pretty good job. Reverb and Ambient are the two most common effects I use. The BVPro works just fine with guitar and especially the clean-but-slightly-driven sound it can make.

no, what is that thing? I meant the blue face vamp
.
it has a manual reverb knob. it has more "guitarlike" effects that the bass vamp is missing.
The chorus sounds cleaner, the combo settings of chorus/flanger sound cleaner.
I dunno, just a cleaner sample of the effects. Even the amp simulator sounds sound different, but better to me ears.
For the live rig, it don't matter but for recording ya it made a difference.
Regarding the manual, you aren't missing out on much. It read like someone used Google Translate from English to Russian to French to English.
Well, my English isn't perfect either, so this isn't going to be a problem.
I just found this warning pretty funny:
Anyway, the manual did the job. I'm going to receive one in my language together with the unit anyway - by now I just wanted to check the amp descriptions. Doing that I found out that I got that wrong: All the preamps written with black letters are bass-preamps. the grey ones are for guitar, keyboard and acoustic instruments. That's a bit confusing...
But the bass preamps on the left side are just what I was hoping for. So I'm very optimistic now.

Anyway, now I got what you mean - so face = surface...
I think the guitarists of Iron Maiden use this one too. I really didn't know that bassists use guitar effects. Yes, I've read a couple of bad critics about the effects of the bass v-amp. That's one reason why I was first hesitating to buy it.
But the effects are not really important to me. I just need a couple of different amp simulations to be able to create the sounds I need in certain situations (especially jazzy sounds) and if some of the effects are ok I'll use them here and there - probably mainly the reverb.
Thanks to all for the assistance!
The only problem that's left now is that I'll have to wait for one week until I'll be able to check out the v-amp myself.

Reason: bad English
OK, can someone help a feller out here. I am looking for a list of the patches that come stock in this monster. When I got my GT-6 about a hundred years ago it came with one but I can't find one anywhere for this beast.
Can anyone help?
Oh and yeah, the "Quick-start Guide"? Yeah, it oughta be renamed the "Instant confusion guide"....
