Is Practice amp quality important.

I asked about practice amps. Please remember I'm still a noob at this. I've been shopping around and was wondering what you all think of the

Behringer BX1800 180W 15" + Horn

My budget is max $500. Any other suggestions? I also don't mind second hand, but what do I look for to make sure it's not a shagged piece of junk.

Thanks

Ben

I'd avoid that brand, there are many better options in your price range, as mentioned in your first thread.

For 500 bucks there are things in the Fender, Peavey, Ampeg, and GK lines that can be had.

Check out Carvin. Used can go for cheap. I scored a mint BX600 210 combo for $300. Peaveys are generally bulletproof, so used is fairly safe. Unfortunately, you must play through an amp to make sure it's not a 'shagged piece of junk'.

I'd try the new Fender Rumble 350. They are going for around $499 now. I bet if you have a Guitar Center close to your home that you could talk them down $50. That's how I got my Fender Rumble 100/15.

For $500, go for a used 4x10 half stack. Maybe Hartke VX series (NOT Transporter), Avatar, or the new Acoustic cabs. Think old Peavey, Hartke, or Acoustic heads.

No offense to anyone here, but I played the "most volume for least amount of money" game for a while when I was a teenager, and I NEVER found a low budget 1x15 combo that didn't get completely drowned out by everything, and didn't sound like garbage when I had to completely dime it to be effective. However, as soon as I switched to a bottom of the line head + 4x10, everything changed. All of a sudden I had tons of headroom, and, even though the stuff I had didn't sound particularly awesome, it sounded WAY better than any of the combos I had before simply because I didn't have to crank the master/gain until it farted out.

I would advise going the same route with your $500.

If you need to buy new, get this instead. It's more money, but will last you longer and you can add additional cabs for more volume:
