They can be picked up new for about £100, so they're certainly cheap. A lot of reviews say the Behringer bass stuff is poor quality. Whether that's the case or not, I'm not sure. I looked at this head myself a while back, but opted out for an alternative for a bit more money. Now I'm considering the 90Watt combo version to use in college. The combo is roughly the same price too, depends what you'd rather have.

I know a guy with a Behringer full stack, one of those discontinued powerpack things (which you can still buy all the parts separately for about £300-£500). I'd recommend trying one of these before you buy, and if the reviews are true, and you do buy then get a long enough warranty

But to be honest, there's definitely better stuff if you buy used. That's what I was told, and it turned out all true for me. Got a full stack for £340, and it's good stuff too, in my opinion.

Anthony.

I do not have experience with the head, but I have (regretfully) experience with the combo.

In a word, it was terrible. Sounded like cardboard, had way less power than advertised, and was very unreliable. Plus the EQ confounded me. Did very strange things, or alternately nothing, to the sound.

Avoid.

Keep in mind that 180 Behringer watts may be equal to about 50 Ampeg (for example) watts. Maybe you should look at something else.

If you do wind up buying one, I have a rack kit for it! (don't ask me why I have one though...!)

I'm not a Behringer fan but I spent a fair amount of time toasting to my Bugera experience in a post-hardcore band I was in. Even those guitar heads blew up on us eventually.

Maybe it's all about expectations, but due to it's low relative standing with regard to all else, I would probably never touch Behringer again given the option. I can find better cheap gear.

Yes, buying used "quality" gear will always be better than that particular brand as new.
