Behringer Europower Amps - as a second amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am considering buying a used behringer europower amp as a second power amp for gigs when i have to either share my amp with other bands or need a second stack for outdoor gigs. I like the price per Wattage ratio but the thing is, I see alot of them available. Is there a reason for this?

When does a watt not equal a watt?
When they don't rate to any standard. EIA, EIAJ, or FTC, Or even "Continuous", aka "RMS"
Unfortunately they are not the only amp maker that has switched to not bothering with a standard. The days of comparing power ratings except for pro-level amps is over.

You see a lot of them because they have good distribution and sales. They're big, heavy, and reliable. People trade up for smaller, lighter, louder.

If you get one, make sure it is the 2500 not the 1500. I found the 1500 woefully underpowered. It also needs a large input signal to work right. Ironically, my Behringer mixer and Behringer power amp did not work well together

The europower poweramps are probably the best thing made by behringer. They are heavey but they work well and are very reliable. I have a 1500 that has been a workhorse for years and has never given me a single problem.

What application did you use it for? Just curious. I was using mine to replace a 500W bass amp at a practice space. I had it bridged into one 1x12. While it worked, it was nowhere near as loud as the bass amp into the same cab.

But I have to admit, I used it 50 times a year for 2 or 3 years with no problems once I got the setup working. This was not a high volume practice, so the lack of volume was not a problem.

strange, i have had a 1500 since they were first available. Always ran in bridge mode into a single 15 or 2x10 + 15. Never lacking for power. I suspect your preamp wasnt putting out a hot enough signal. I used mine with both a Behringer Bass Vamp Pro and an old Peavey TB Raxx tube bass preamp, neither had any problem being way too loud.

I have replaced it with a Crown Drivecore XLS1000 also running bridged. The Behringer was louder. The Crown is much lighter which was why I bought it. I may upgrade to the XLS1500 though.

The Behringer is now in my studio rack where I dont have to carry it, the only reason I replaced it was the weight. We also have 2 EP2500's and 2 EP4000's in our PA, big heavy powerful and reliable.

I used it for powering an ampeg preamp and now use it for a PA amp. The only thing i noticed is if you bridge it down to a 4 ohm load it doesnt seem to like that and will shut down. Works great bridged 8 ohms or stereo 4 ohms a side. I ran it into 2 410 cabs when i used it for bass and it had plenty of power.
