Berg cab help

Sign in to disble this ad
I ordered a Berg HS410 on Tuesday and just received it. The first thing I noticed was that it was in a GB box. When I opened it, it was obvious that it has been used, even though it was listed as new. The grill is dented on the lower left corner. the rat fur is dirty. I thought that it was that rubber covering. There are marks on the top where a rack sat on it. And some of the insulation has fallen down in small pieces to the bottom and is sticking out of the grill. And it won't roll straight because one of the wheels is bent. Thoughts?

Was it from a dealer? Possibly they had it on the "floor"?

Eh. Sounds pretty used to me. I'd either return it, or if it actually sounds like its not impaired, I'd work on a hefty discount for all the other defects if you can live with them.

Damn. I was so excited about getting it. It was from a dealer and I just spoke with them and they're sending me a return slip. Kinda sucks. Apparently, it was a floor model and that was not disclosed to me or I would have tried to get a discount. But when you spend $1000+ one would expect to get something that was in new condition. I guess I'm cab searching again. On that note any thoughts on an equivalent cab.

Yeah, I would guess that they prey on people who are so excited to get their cab that it's a let down to have to return it...I'm always leery of floor model cabs, because like a rental car, people pound on them with no concern, since they don't own them.

Yep. I wish that I would have known it was a floor model. Oh well.

Call Bergantino Audio. Jim will answer. Let him know about your experience, and the name of the dealer. He does not tolerate that kind of crap from his dealers.

Meanwhile, order a new one from Bass San Diego. They'll treat you right.

That sucks! But, if ya don't mind the looks too much, & it SOUNDS great still, how about asking, hell, demanding a decent amount of cash back?
& too right, let Bergantino know fer sure

That totally sucks. If it was me I wouldn't ask for a partial refund I would want what I paid for. Great cab, don't let this turn you off from Bergantino. These are by far the best cabs I have ever played.

+1 Best cabs I've used too & fair enough pov. I just added an option.
Probly due in the main, the fact that I live in an isolated area- & sending it back would be SUCH an issue, I'd probly go for a rebate of some sort
As usual ymmv
Hope it works out ok for you!

If you already made arrangements to return it, then I guess that's that. Did you hint that you wanted a discount (credit or cash refunded to you)? I'd think the dealer would do that.

That model is discontinued, right? So, there might not be too many brand new ones around.

This.

If you like the cab otherwise though, I'd try to work out a partial refund from the dealer and keep the cab.

As far as I know (and I might be wrong), Jim has discontinued all of his cabs except the two NV cabs. So, my guess is, a few floor models of the HT, HS and AE series might be all that is left.

So, if you dig this cab, work out a discount and keep it, since the probability of finding another one is pretty low.

That being said, my guess is that Jim will have a new, non-neo 410 'HS' replacement on the market reasonably soon (again, just guessing there, based on various posts on this site indicating that Jim is focusing on traditional driver cabs given the increase in neo pricing).

Again, all this is second hand info, but just thought I'd throw it out there for the OP to consider and possibly verify with Jim.

I just received a call from Jim Bergantino. What an awesome dude! We spoke for awhile and he has taken care of my problem. With that kind of service and quality I won't ever buy anything else but a Berg cab.

No doubt that the "new" cab that I bought was pushed pretty hard to have some of the fiberglass insulation falling to the bottom. As far as the dealer, I don't want to break any rules by naming them. If I get permission from a mod to do so, then I will.

Jim is a great guy, and very accessible. He doesn't give you the feeling you're bothering him when you call like so many others in the business. He is excellent and putting tech specs in layman's terms.
