Bergantino AE112 vs Aguilar DB112

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, in another thread I've been getting some good recommendations for good quality practice amps. Now I'm considering an alternative - I've been gigging with one or two Aggie db112's. db112's inmo are not the best for transport, however I have no issues with thier tone for my current project. What I'm thinking is if I can get lighter smaller cabs that still work sonically, I'll leave the db's around the house and use em instead of a practice amp. So AE112's interest me for the weight, size, and Berg's reputation, but how will they compare to the tone of the DB's? Material is a mix of everything, typical wedding band dance stuff. I'd be powering them with a puma 500. Bases are ebmm sr classic and gib tbird, j's and p's. Thanks for any input.

The AE112 is very punchy in the lowend and deep and defined at the same time. A very balanced and full midrange with some attitude and edginess in the high mids to highs is very musical and really works nicely for fingerstyle playing which is what I mainly do. This is a very LOUD cab for it's compact size. It will take whatever you throw at it and give back more. They do take quite a bit of punishment before giving in. IMO, they are probably the best lightweight 12" cabs going.

I recently sold one of my AE112's for this very reason. I've found myself playing through one cab in both my blues and jazz bands more often than not and my LMII has yet to break a sweat.

I gig with 2 AE112's but just take one for small venues. I think they sound great and are very easy on an old man's back.

+1. I also gig with two AE112's. For a small compact cabinet you can go wrong. Tight sounding, natural sounding, and capable of hitting huge lows without breaking up.

Thanks for all the replies. Really interesting is the idea that maybe I could get away with just one. With the DB112, I take two as I'm afraid to push one that hard, and two just sounds better to me. So if the AE112 tone is not to far off from the DB112, it seems a good choice.

as nice a cab as the ae112 is, they will sound just wimpy compared to your db112's.

while not quite as middy heavy as your db cabs, the berg ht112er's have a more open and evenly balanced sound. yet, they're more authoritative sounding than the ae112. and the handles, oh, i could on and on and on and on and on how awesome the handles are, and how much easier it is carrying the cab.

The AE112 seems to have a nicer mid focus than the DB.. but the DB112s do make the AE sound wimpy as already stated , if you need to move air and bass freqs... After all we are not guitar players.
I like the HT112ER more than the AE..

You may want to have a look at the LoPHAT 112.

So you didn't like the fact that it could handle a lot?

I do like the fact that it can handle alot which diminished my need for two of them. That's of course reference to my musical situations.

I've owned the AE112 and the DB112 and now use the HT112ER. The ER's are the best by far!

I ordered a pair of AE112's this week. They are supposed to be in Monday I believe.

I was looking for the most bang/lightest weight/smallest size compromise I could find.

I'll be running my trusty Shuttle 9.0 into them.

I wonder if the 9.0 might be a little too much for them?

I'm thinking 1 cab for the small stuff and two for the the big stuff and if I need more than that I would be mystified.

Why? Are you planning to keep the Shuttle cranked up to "10"?

I'm considering the very same thing. I have a Shuttle 9 and think 1 or 2 AE112's might be perfect for my situation (which is needing lots of volume and being as portable as possible).

I'm on the fence about AE112, HT112, or maybe an AE 210...

I went with the AE112 X2 out of pure ease of transport. I'll use one for the small stuff (with the 9.0's heft at 8 ohms) and two for the mighty gigs.

I also have my SWR Golight Cabs. I will still leave my Golight 1x15 at rehersal space #1 and my Golight 2x10 at #2. I'll keep the Berg Cabs at home for grabbing one and zapping down the road and take both when I need them.

I sold my Golight 4x10. Great cab but too big for my liking and with one rehearsal a week at each place moving even a little cab back and forth was getting old. Now I have cabs all over the place.

I would like to have kept the 4x10 but in these times I could not justify it. I had the money but it just did not seem prudent. I sold the 4x10 for what I paid for it new, and sold an QSC RMX850 power amp, and bought the two Berg Cabs.

Two me if one can afford them the AE112 x2 is the way to go with the 9.0 because of the size and the weight. Some like those ER cabs but they weigh too much IMO.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not surprised to hear the AE 112 described as wimpy compared to the Db 122. Kind of what I wa afraid of. Can't fight physics I guess. It's really the only cab I'm aware of with a weight that suggests it might be worth it to replace the DB112's. I guess I need to experience AE's in person.
