Here, at least, are a couple of pictures (front and back), and one next to the equally wonderful AE410 for size context to keep the ball rolling: |

The rear ports on the AE212 will be nowhere near a mic, and the way they're flanged really eliminates most of that anyway; it really reduces air speed on the way out of the port. I have much better luck with those type of ports, personally.
Some folks never have issues like that, and the UL410 has similar shelf ports, but I can never make that thing hiccup no matter how hard I slam it.

Clips, with ash/maple Mike Lull M5V and Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0: Santa Baby Sweet Lorraine Play That Funky Music I Will Survive Car Wash
I really dig the cab when I'm going for a more "vintage" sound. I don't particularly care for it with my MTD or Sadowsky basses, but heck...that's where the HT112ERs come into play. Strictly personal, but I'll offer my only criticism...it's a bit awkward when loading/carrying. Tough getting it positioned in my SUV, and the feet are aligned just right to prevent it from sitting solidly on my cart. Wah, wah. Kudos on the cover - easy fit, and my initial concerns about durability have proven to be unfounded. Overall, I really can't recommend highly enough taking a peek at this cab if you're in the 212 market.

Most of the 410's I've liked had larger ports, or more of them. The 410xlt for example had those ports on top and bottom. Also the Genz Uber 410 has massively large ports on the bottom, and they're all bull-nosed to cut down some on the effect you are describing.

GREAT cab for most, and it POUNDS for me in every way. Different enough from the AE212 that it is fun to own both. |

Again, I believe Chef is literally the only person that has had this issue with the AE410. The AE410 is my favorite 410 of all time and gets pretty much universal praise (at least from those that enjoy its tonal profile.... tight, punchy, aggressive in the upper mids) The right tool for the right job! I would not, for example, recommend the AE410 for those who enjoy a more dub type tone.

I may be a freak, but I doubt I'm singular in that, over the entire planet.
I also doubt it's worth a redesign over poor lil ole me
However, whatever it is, it's curable. The UL410 doesn't do it, and it even has the grill in front of the ports.
I want an AE212. Need a few more gigs first to finance it as I've been rather ahead of the curve on that for the last two purchases.

I really like your old AE410 and hope the AE212 impresses me that much too.
