Bergantino AE410 vs Ampeg PN-410HLF Pro Neo ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking for a light weight 4x10 bass cab and am trying to decide between the Bergantino and the Ampeg neodymium cabs. I use an Ashdown ABM500 Head and am currently playing through Ashdown 410 and 115 cabs but would like to get rid of those and get something easier on the old back. Anyone got any comments as to which would sound better with my Ashdown head ? I play a Musicman Stingray 5 and a Fender P mainly for rock and blues , not into slap style stuff. I need to be able to hear the Stingray's full range especially the low B well and would like to get a good growl with plenty bottom end from my Fender P like JJ Burnel. If anyone has either of these cabs and can let me know what they think of them that would be great thanks.

I can only speak to the PN-410HLF.

Dino Monoxelos at Ampeg was highly influential + helped me with my purchase of a PN-410HLF and I couldn't be happier! Built like a small tank, 64-pounds, made in the USA -- clarity, tone + power for days! Check out Dino's PRO NEO videos on YouTube.

On an interesting note, I believe that both the Ampeg PRO NEO and the Bergantino are made in Whitinsville, MA.

Cheers!

Mmm interesting. I read that neo cabs can be a bit too high in the mids though I guess I could just turn down the middle control on my amp ?

My advice would be to try both of these cabs in person and see what sounds good to you.

Don't let preconceptions or things you've heard from others influence what ultimately should be yours to determine!

I would but my local music shops do not stock either of them so I am looking at mail order (I am based in UK).

What set your heart on a 4x10? Nothing wrong with that btw What volume do you need?

Another possibility is a 2x12 by Aguilar or Genz Benz.

Nothing set my heart on a 4x10 particularly it's just what I'm used to. I have no aversion to using smaller cabs though I do like the look of large cabs behind me at a gig. I could go for two 2x10 instead but that would cost more than one 4x10. Volume wise I need enough for pub and club size venues , bigger gigs I DI into the pa of course but most gigs are smaller and backline only.

Would either of these work well with a GK 800RB?

I'm new to the Bass and it's equipment. I was considering pairing the Pro Neo 410 with my GK 800 RB...half because of its relative portability, and half because of its tone. Am I thinking logically here? What are the "standard" cabs paired with the 800 RB? Thanks for taking the time to respond to this.

Best,

Kurt
