Bergantino HS210 Owners...best micro amp?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Yes, I did a search.

Looking to hear from Bergantino HS210 owners. Just acquired one and I love it. Question is what MICRO amp are you using or do you recommend? I have a Markbass LM II head and it sounds great, but I'll bet the Berg can sound even better. Want smooth, clean tone with a punchy bottom with my B string!

What micro-head/amp does it for you?

Thoughts & recommendations?

Thanks!

Bergs love tube amps. My recording rig is an HS210 and a Sadowsky SA200, but it sounds amazing with SVT's, Bassmen, and just about anything else you can throw at it.

Never found a micro that made me happy with the HS210... always seemed to want a bit more power at 8ohms than the MB heads could give it. While I wasn't impressed with the Shuttle6 and the HS210 at all, every bone in my body says the newer, more powerful Shuttle 9 would be the bomb with this cab... plenty of power at 8ohms, a bit of upper mid bump to liven that very warm and smooth cab up, and plenty of low end push.

Although not a micro, I found the Aguilar AG500SC (one of my least favorite heads in an absolute sense... a bit loose down low, too polite in the upper mids and a bit 'slow sounding' in general) to be actually magic with the HS210.... fat, punchy, warm, articulate... nice yin yang voicing with that cab... great 'P Bass rig' or 'Passive 60's J' rig IMO.

Thanks, Ken -really appreciate you jumping in here!

OK, you've taken the Shuttle 6.0 off the table (was in my consideration set).

Intrigued by the Shuttle 9.0.

Also, what about a Markbass Tube 800? That amp brings 500w to 8 ohms and maybe the tube would warm it up a bit in the mids?

I no longer had my HS210 when I had the LMT800 for a short while. That might sound great also, but can't say for sure. That amp is big down low and quite 'modern' up top, so on paper, it would seem to work both voicing and powerwise with that nice, tight, warm 8ohm 210.

While the 9 is bright and a bit modern also, you will get more tube compexity and warmth out of that head than the LMT800, where that little tube (it isn't a 12ax7) does very little.

Did not enjoy the TC RH450 through it at all. I think Ken's got the right idea with the Shuttle 9.0 though.

Of course now I'm running it with a Super Lead clone and its perfect.

Aguilar AG500 or Shuttle 9.0 - either will sound really good with the HS210. Vintage Fender Bassman amps are also a nice match, but hardly "micro"...

Congrats!

Just out of curiosity, anyone out there tried a GK Fusion 550 with any of the Berg HS cabs (maybe Tom Bowlus)?

I know it's not a micro head, but I would think it would sound great with any of the Berg HS models.

I use a Shuttle 9 with my HT210 and it's no joke. Best sounding rig I've ever had.

I haven't tried the Fusion 550 with just the HS210, alone, but I bet it would rawk. The MB Fusion should work well, too. I'll have to give that one a spin.

I'm not sure if you consider it a micro or not, but the Walkabout sure sounds great with the HS210.

But I also think that the Shuttle 9.0 would be a good tonal match for the HS210, for sure.

Shuttle 9.0 is in the house. One word initial review: Whoah!
Can't wait to spend some quality time with it tomorrow.

That should sound VERY good pretty much right out of the box with your cab IMO. Let us know.
