Bergantino HT112ER vs EX112ER-----How much tone loss without the tweeter?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just picked up a new HT112ER from Bass NW.

I play mostly piezo basses and my main bass is Turner piezo only with TI acousticore strings. So the last thing I need is a lot of high end.

How much tone loss would there be if I went with the EX112ER instead of the HT112ER ?

Per his specs, the tweeter covers from 5 khz to 18khz.

I am using a TC Classic 450 head.

Thanks much!

I haven't played either, but I own a J2 1x12 cab that was modeled on the EX. Actually the guy said he got the design from the non ER model and widened it out because he didn't want his rack to hang off the sides. He said he knew JB, sent him the design and the ER came out sometime later. Not sure that's verifiable.

Anyway, the cab sounds pretty dadgum good with my Thunderfunk plugged into it. It's got a 400W eminence delta and I don't miss any highs. Maybe it would "sparkle" more with a tweeter. I don't know. My last cab had a tweeter and I always had it turned off anyway.

But then again, my ears may not be that sophisticated. I'm sure there's someone on this board with better experience but sometimes I just can't stop myself from expressing an unfounded, unsubstantiated ignorant opinion.

I haven't played the EX, but I have owned an NV610 that tops out at about the same spot (4.5kHz versus the EX's 4kHz). I never felt like I was missing anything.

It seems to be fairly common to run one or two non-tweeter 1x12 cabs. All of the fundamentals and several octaves worth of overtones are present below 4kHz.

FWIW....
I prefer the HT over the EX quite a bit.....and I am not really a tweeter guy, but the tweeter in the HT is quite smooth and really adds articulation without necessarily being overly sparkly up top......I A/B'd the two cabs enough to know that even with two of them, I prefer HT over EX and even 2 HT112ERs over HT112ER+EX112ER.......
maybe its just me......but the articulation is just nice,,,,,,,,,,
I feel its plenty easy to shave off the extended upper end and still
have smooth, articulate, upper registers
to each their own of course as YMMV......
