Bergantino New Product Wish List - Make A Wish!

Sign in to disble this ad
In recent times there has been some curiosity here on TB as to what Jim Bergantino may come up with next. I mean, the highly lauded IP series was discontinued over a year ago, and more recently the HT series has become in need of some redesign with the HT112ER tweeter becoming unavailable. There have been murmerings of "What's Jim Bergantino got up his sleeve?" We know there's something coming.

Well, here's your chance to make a wish.

I have two, and they are kinda no brainers:

- how about an IPL series, the IP concept with neos and lightweight cabinets.

- how about an IVL series, combining the NV series tonal concept with lightweight drivers and the poweramp and DSP concept from the IP series. Think of a NV610 equivalent, with maybe a 5 driver design using neos and a 1000 watt power amp built in. (We know from the IP310 that the DSP enables Jim to control the driver efficiency really well and produce uncanny amounts of SPL, so I'm postulating an IVL 510 could potentially do the job of a NV610.) This cab at maybe 65 - 70 lbs. would absolutely kill.

What would YOU like to see come from the shop of Jim Bergantino?

Jim

Modern sounding long excursion 2X8 cab with horn or bullet tweeter. Small size with a quick & defined sound, would be great for slapping, palm muting & playing over the bridge pickup of a jazz bass.

Stacking 2 of them vertically with a micro head would make a killer rig, less cumbersome than 2X10's but still with a nice height & vertical dispersion. Or they could be stacked horizontally for a fuller sound more coupled to the floor. It would also be the ideal size, shape & configuration to stand them up & use them in stereo if desired.

seeing as the ae series is discontinued due to driver price,
i'll wish for something more realistic as it doesn't look like neos are going to be part of the equation for a while:
nv 2x12, (sealed, no tweet) and a ported 2x12 (with tweet).
tall boxes, like the ae.

The 2X8 is an interesting concept, and should be roughly equivalent to a 1X12 in terms of SPL (based on surface area), so a pair of them would definitely handle most gigs.

Interestingly, Glockenklang has a high quality 1X8 called the "Acoustic 8-1" that only appears on the German version of their website under the Bass Line product list:
Produkte - GLOCKENKLANG

All of the Glock Bass Line cabinets are really outstanding. I haven't heard any reports of this cabinet, which is really designed for amplification of acoustic instruments. But the folks at Glockenklang have told me it is on par with the old Acoustic Art MKIII, which was a really amazing cabinet. Glockenklang needs to revamp their Bass Line cabinets, since the Acoustic 8-1 is the only one still in production. (The RCF tweeter used in the Acoustic Art MKIII and Bass Art MKII went out of production, and so these cabs are no longer available. The Ted went out of production some years ago.) Maybe Glock will do a 2X8 if Jim Bergantino doesn't...

+1. Those would be really cool, esp. the sealed one. And yeah, neos don't look to be in the cards, at least for a little while.

Well I obviously haven't been paying close enough attention to the Bergantino threads, and this is very disappointing news to me.

And I agree, makes my wish list not too likely to come to fruition. This makes me wonder what JB is up to then...

More active cabs without a doubt, with a minimalist preamp (gain knob) so we can plug the bass directly into the active cab and play, or use any preamp we want.
Option of tolex or carpet would be great.

An nv410 would be nice but, you could have LDS use the eminence b810 drivers and get the same sound, at a 3rd of the price. I'd like to see a sealed 4x10 or sealed 2x12 with a tweet. Let the drivers roll off naturally though instead of using the crossover.

If they sold an NV212, I would buy it immediately!

It looks like a lot of people are thinking along the same lines: NV in a smaller package.

A Bergantino 3-way would be sweet! NV 212 would be great as well, in the AE vertical form factor.

That "extra little speaker" is a big part of what made the NV215 awesome. Use your ears, not your eyes.

Not sure that I see Jim chasing the fearful bandwagon but I think it would sell regardless because of his name and reputation. Stackable 12/6/1 with a matching 12 sub. (assuming these would be ceramic drivers) to keep the weight down.
