What do my fellow TBers consider the best bang for the buck 112, under $500?

The one I built with an Eminence Kappalite 3012LF and an Eminence Alpha6 mid. Actually, that might run over $500 these days. Nevermind!

Gallien Krueger Neo 112-II is pretty incredible for the money(about $350). Balanced and even sounding with a very clear tone. Its also pretty light weight. Great sounding cab.

good question

I really like my new Avatar SB112 also. It's a little bigger than most 112's, but that makes it sound bigger to my ears.

My DB1260 is also a nice cab but....

I've never played one before, but if I were in the market for a 1x12 my first stop would be an Aguilar.

The cab that leaped to mind for me was the GB NeoX 112T. I have no affiliation with the sellers on this:

FS: Month Old Genz Benz NeoX-112T (New Tolex Version)

NeoX-112T Genz Benz LIKE NEW!

Thats a good deal. I was going to say a used GS112 for around $300 is what I would do.

Talkin' new?
The GK Neo 112 is a great value on a great cab.

If you're talkin' used, well, whole different deal.

Has anyone tried the Hydrive HX112, if so how does it compare to the GK Neo 112?

Talk to Don at LDS. He makes some killer cabs and his prices are incredibly reasonable.

Go through RMC Audio, and you can land a GK Neo 112 for just a few bucks more than the Avatar. And it's a much tighter sounding cabinet down low than the Avatar. Best bang for the buck neo 112 out there.
