What 1x15 and 2x15 enclosures do people generally regard as the best? I've been hearing a whole lot about the Bag End 1x15s and the Mesa 2x15s. |

Sorry, but it isn't quite as simple as that...

For a more typical "production" cab, my vote is the Berg HT115 for a single 15 with honorable mention to the Orange OBC115. For the 2x15, it's hard to beat the Berg NV215. The BagEnd and Mesa cabs aren't bad by any means, but IMO the ones I mentioned (as well as the Fearfuls of course) are even better. Depends on your tone goals though. |

The 2x15 sounds big and open, even without the hi freq horn. My 1x15 currently has the Eminence KappaLite 3015 in it, and couldn't be happier! Though there are other drivers available for far less money that would be just as satisfying. |

Otherwise I'm a big fan of the ol' Sunn 215, especially with a nice tube head and a pbass |

David, the founder, created the SWR 4x10, created EDEN, and now has a new venture called DNA.
I have a pair of his 112's. Unbelieveable! The 410 supports 1400 watts RMS. Tone? Nothing compares! |

Not really close when it comes to clarity.
Here's my 2x15 setup with a 3kW power amp and a Kern tube preamp:

My mid-seventies Dual Showman "large" 2x15" w/JBLs still stands up with the best of 'em.

Since "best" is both subjective and dependent on goals, these type of threads just get a bunch of people anxious to tell you how much they love their gear. |

I had an Acoustic 406 cab (215) and a 220 head back in the early 80s until I got into the GK 800RB and biamping 15s and 12s....then along came SWR and their 410 that changed everything - had a 410 for a couple years until I got tired of lifting that 90# cab; got a pair of 210s and used those with a Walter Woods head for about 15 years and while that rig is portable and has a small footprint (210 cabs stacked vertically), I've been missing out on the lows - finally built a fEARful 15/6 recently after reading about them for at least 2 years and now I'm really digging this cab - plenty of low end, yet very clear in the mids, I have an L-pad on the tweeter and have it set on about 2. Of course this isn't your basic 115 or 215 cab because it's a 3-way cab, but it's the best 115 IMO. It's nice to have a ONE CAB solution for gigs again. I haven't had a single cab rig since my SWR 410 - and this 15/6 is only 60#!

Full range but have a girth at high volumes that's hard to describe. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
