I own alot of GK gear and have not had any of it fail, any brand of gear is going to have issues,,,,, for me the GK stuff has been the most reliable.

You already sold the best under $500 250w combo around Christmas. If your problem was with the tolex then why didn't you just buy a padded cover for it? If your main interest was in tonal capabilities and output the BG250 is the better of the two and I also play a GK combo so there's at least some validity to what I'm saying.

Not 100% sure if your comments/quote was for me as the quote feature was not used by you, but I will respond just in case your post was directed at me.

Also not 100% sure which amp I sold you mentioned as I buy and sell a lot of combo amps,,,,, I did get rid of (returned) the BG250,,,,, but I have also sold a GK210, GK212 and GK115,,,,, I just re-purhchased a new next gen MB115 to replace the first gen MB115 I got rid of,,,,, I plan getting both the new gen GK MB210 and MB212 combos in the next few weeks.

I also still have my GK MB112 that gets used quite a bit as my main rehearsal combo,,,,, my band does not rehearse at a low volume and I'm always shocked and amazed on how great the MB112 performs.

I don't recall any tolex issues with any of my gear,,, so not sure what your refuring to.

As far as tone,,,, I really wanted to love everything about the TC BG250,,,,I had it on pre-order for almost 4 months and was very much looking forward to getting it,,,,,,, what a disappointment the BG250 was in the tone department when compared to all my other gear I currently own and have owned.

To me and my ears the tone of the BG250 was a total bore,,, worst sounding combo I have ever purchased,, even the Ampeg BH115hp and Peavey TNT combos I recently purchased and returned blew the BG250 away.

Just to make sure I didn't just get a "bad" BG250 I have also demoed them in the music stores and they still sounded as bad as the one I returned.

On paper the BG250 is a killer little combo with some nice features but the tone that thing put out was just so not there,,,, the best way I can describe the tone of the BG250 is to say it made all my bass's sound like they all had very dirty half-round bass strings on that hadn't been changed in 10 years.

Perhaps some people like that bass sound,,,,, I don't.

Cheers

We just got a TC combo in at GC... I want to say it's 250w and is VERY aesthetically pleasing. Speaker size is a 15, I think. But man. It sounds good and it's like, $400. Run down there and try it out. Then make a salesperson very happy when you buy it.

But GK is great as well.

I've owned 2 BG250's. I really wanted to like it cuz it I liked everything about it on paper. But the sound was very underwhelming to me, its a very dark sounding amp (& I understand how some could really dig that sound). So Im back to GK combo. Not as many features, but the sound is Killer to me.

I've played the TC BG250 filling in with a band at a few gigs (it's their rig) and I must say that it's an interesting little combo. Plenty of power in a very small package.

But 100% of the time I'll take my big Fender Bassman 100T into the Neo 410 cab but I won't say I dislike the TC - it's just not in the same category as my rig.

But I also would not say that the one I played was "muddy" or "dark".

I'm sure, like so many brands that you can get a gem or a turd........

davyo i think soulman969 was referring to me , cause i had the first generation of gk mb115 and a bg250 recently purchased but it was around Christmas and i couldn't really enjoy it because i sold them due to personal reasons , and one of my concerns with the bg was the tolex cover and cab material i tough is was going to be an issue but now that i bought it for the second time and have no plans of selling it i will give it a fair test on the road and at church .. if is not what im looking for i will take it back and get mb115 from gk , but as an now im very happy with my bg250 !!! thanks to all of u for ur imput !!!

G-K went with a new look on the series II's. Could have been some rattled, could be a lot of people painting them (G-K could have taken this as a sign of weakness for the line)? The change does make the series II easy to spot.
