Best 240/230V Preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
Yo European/Australian people!

I'm looking at getting a new preamp (I already have a Sansamp RBI) to run with a Crown XLS1500 power amp.
Neglecting price, what do you have/recommend?

I've looked into Alembic F-1X and BBE BMax-T and BMax preamps and cannot find them anywhere at 240/230V so I thought I would put the word out.

If Ampeg SVP preamps could be found anywhere I would get on to one!

Mate,
if you want one of the best preamps out there get a Glockenklang Bass Art Pre here
http://www.bassgeardirect.com/Glocke...0Home.htm#bass art amps intro

Glockenklang gear is really hard to beat , I've got the Heart Rock head and it is by far the best amp I have ever used compared to any of the more mainstream heads out there and is quite affordable here in Australia.

I won't go into the various preamps because it depends if you like it clean like the Glockenklang or more tubey like the Ampeg (sounds like you do). Lots of reviews on TB.

But you should be able to get almost anything in 240V at any bass specialty shop, off ebay or from your local classifieds - in fact an Alembic F-1X just arrived in the mail today...

I live in South Africa so we use the same Voltage, you can get practically any preamp you want, I doubt there are many, if any, companies that don't make a 240v version of their product. I have the Crown XLS1500 as well, so far I have found the Eden Navigator sounds best with it but I haven't tried it with my U5 yet.

I wish we had Bass specialty stores on WA so I could go try out this stuff. All I have to go off are youtube videos of different preamps. Really makes it quite difficult when searching for a new preamp! arrghh

As a result of this there are NEVER preamps for sale in Perth so I'm checking eBay daily and looking online for a second hand preamp with real tube warmth!

JBM,

Just noticed that Bass Gear Direct has a USED SWR Marcus Miller M2 preamp for sale -
http://www.bassgeardirect.com/USED.htm . Don't know that much about it but it seems to have a heap of features, comparession / tube overdrive / parametrics and footswitch.
Might be worth looking into for the money.
