Currently looking for a 2x10 or another 1x15 to pair with this amp and cabinet. Would it be ok to pair the S.O.B. with a NEO version of the same speaker (GoLight) or with a NEO 2x10, or should I stick with traditional magnets to match the S.O.B.? Only considering cabs of 8 ohm impedence with a similar rating to that of the S.O.B. (350watts).

| | | | I guess in short, part of what I'm asking is that if I'll get optimum efficiency pairing neo's with regular magnets. Anyone have experience pairing 2x12's with a 15? |

| | | There are some differences in sound between Neo and regular speakers, the best thing it will be for you try 2x10 regular and neo version together you son of bertha and see how it sounds, from my expierence the neo version are always a little bit darker than regualr speakers. Anyway you need to try it and judge by yourself :-)

I guess this is the core of my question. |

I've searched and read a lot on the topic of mixing speaker sized too and all the pros say go with a pair of the same speaker cabs UNLESS you have a cab like the fEARful or Avatar 153, that is 3-way cabs with x-overs so that each driver is handling it's own range of frequencies. I've been running a pair of SWR 210 cabs for years and I'm just now spending the bread to upgrade to their NEO 10s after having no luck with the Eminence Delta 10s, which are not good bass speakers. I used to run a 210 with a 15, and while they sounded good to my ears, there's the issue with phasing and the loss of certain frequencies in certain rooms. The pair of 210s always works well - I stack them vertically for a smaller footprint AND so I can hear them better. Back to your issue, I'd get the NEO 210, see how it works and if it's not good with the SOB, then I'd sell the SOB and pick up another 210 NEO - just sayin' what I'd do. A lot of this stuff is trial and error. What shouldn't work on paper sometimes does on stage! I've been through many different speaker cabs and always come back to the pair of 210 cabs - and that's also due to weight and size issues - 210s are light and portable. I also use a fEARful 15/6 and a pair of 112 TL806 loaded with Kappalite 3012HOs for small gigs. I hope some of this rambling helps.

Right now I'm using the SOB with GK's flagship 2x10 (RBH? RBX?...the professional line of theirs. It's not mine and at the rehearsal space.) and I get all the power I need and then some. Would the GK neo 2x10 perform equally if not better than the traditional? I'm super curious about throwing an SWR GoLight alternatively as I love SWR cabs. I just find that using the GK 2x10 paired with the SOB gives me just a hint of that classic GK tone ( "sizzle-slitz, as I like to call it ). Arrrgh! Good thing I dont have the money for this yet or I might do something stupid and buy another bass | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
