Best Amp for a Rickenbacker

Just came into a Rickenbacker 4001. I need some ideas on the best amp setup to bring out the best for this guitar? I really want to capture that classic "Rick" sound.

I'm about to grab a MesaBoogie M6 Carbine Wednesday for my Rick4003. If you want a vintage sound, I guess Ampeg would do...hate Ampeg's new stuff though.

Ack! You called it a guitar! No advice for you!!!
No certain "amp" is going to give you that classic Ric clank-
How you EQ it will (bump the mids!)-
I couldn't decide on amps, so I play mine through a
Mesa 400+ & an Acoustic 370 w/ Ampeg 810's at the same
time-Both bring out the classic "clank"-

There are a lot of different "classic rick" sounds. Which one do you mean?

Depending on the artist who' s Rick tone you're looking for, I would search fro the gear they use.

I think a big sounding tube amp sounds good with a Ric, especially the SVT's.

To a certain extent a Ric sounds like a Ric no matter what. I have used mine through various GK heads as well as a Genz Benz 750; most recently a Markbass SA 450. The Ric sound comes through loud and clear no matter what head. After that it is what sort of coloration, distortion etc. do you want to add to it.

I like the marshall approach. A VBA400 would certainly work well too.

I've played my Rics through so many different rigs, and although they're all somewhat different, it always sounds like me playing a Ric. What do you have now? Or, did you just get your first bass and haven't got any amp yet?
